IMO Pavlik is the perfect person to bring boxing back to network television. Here's an example.

Network News could do a segment on how bad the rust belt has become. It could show how people, who once made a good living in steel mills and factories, now have to work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. They can talk about how Pavlik has given his hometown, Youngstown, a bit of hope and happiness. they should focus on how he is an ordinary guy, an average Joe. Maybe show a little bit of Mill Creek Park, and show some of the charity work he does.

60 minutes averages 9.4 million viewers
    Dateline averages 7.4 million viewers

I think that along with a couple weeks of promotion, like the EliteXC thing had, could make this a pretty big event.

I think it ALL comes down to money. If they had the fight in Cleveland, it's a sell out. Quicken Loans Arena holds 20,500 people. So the crowd would be big and VERY loud because it would probably be 80-90% Pavlik.

I think he could. Its up to the promoters to try get boxing back on abc and nbc, as with that sort of exposure will push boxing back into the main stream.

If Pavlik can keep on bringing nice fights like Pavlik-Taylor I, then i guess yea.
But he wont get knocked down early on by someone like arthur abraham.

I remember reading that Pavlik/Taylor was the highest rated live boxing fight on HBO in 07. I read it in an article on the policies of HBO.

That said I don't think there's anyone at 160 who people want to see Pavlik fight enough to get it on public TV. Abraham is one guy..and pretty much the only guy who you coud throw out there who might make ABC or CBS jump at the opportunity. Problem with that is Abraham might not well known in the U.S at this point.

Not to mention HBO would probably throw out a ridiculous number if the went to a bid on it. I could HBO going WAY overboard in a bidding war to secure the rights to Abraham-Pavlik.

As opposed to what other people like to watch?

Edit: seems odd to me that you think that he is a phenom to primarily a white audience.

No, it is racial-- and my guess is that you made this thread after what Mayweather said as a means of bringing this point home.

Don't say its not racial when its the first point you mention.

Pavlik won't bring boxing back to cable TV cause he can make more money boxing on PPV end of story
