I hope they don't take it the wrong way! I am not a hater. The only think I dislike about Mundine is that he runs his mouth too much and doesn't fight the best anymore. As to Pavlik, I really like him as a person, and I think the world of him as a fighter, but I think he would have chin problems with big hitters with solid chins at 168.
Only to the extent that they don't have the best of chins...other than that, they are very different. I only gave the example in case it helped anyone think outside the box.
Gaining a few pounds may give Pavlik a better chin too (not that he has a bad chin). Kist look what gaining weight did for Cotto. He can take a hit a bit better now that he moved up in weight. Pavlik, despite his appearances as being a skinny kid, packs one hell of a punch and his conditions and skills are good too. IMO I think he could easily take Winky at the upper weights. Lacy too. I think Calzaghe is a bit faster and would approach Pavlik intelligently and outbox him. There is no dobut in my mind though that Pavlik can easily KO Calzaghe.
I'm with ya now, I don't know much about Mundine, so I didn't understand your comparison. What you are saying is fair.:good
Pavlik would have to work on his defence a hell of a lot to prove himself north against a puncher with a solid chin. He wouldn't have the time he steps up against JC. Granted, Calzaghe isn't a puncher (or is he?? ), but he has a solid chin, great defense and great skill, not to mention all his tricks! Pavlik would not be able to KO Joe. He wouldn't win on points either. Joe might TKO him though and would very likely take the UD.
i don't think we've seen enough of pavlik against top guys. he showed some real quality against taylor...and some vulnerability. i think he could definitely cut it at 168 but against the top guys, too soon to tell. especially for a (relatively) small mw
Even if this is true, remember, guys at a higher weight also punch harder...In any case, Joe would not KO Pavlik; he would TKO him. I think that is a foolish thing to say, with all due respect. Joe's chin is very solid indeed.
Ok, Ok, Decebal. BTW, how would a thread go if I started one asking how Joe would do against the top guns at 175?:hey Me thinks all the same things being said about Pavlik's chances in a higher weight class would then be about the same for Mr. Calzaghe. No?
Don't put me down as a hater by no means, but to say Joe's chin is very solid indeed and say Pavlik's isn't, I don't know about that. Neither man has been stopped, both are undefeated, and BOTH have been knocked down and gotten up to stomp the **** out of whoever they were in with. Right?
There is a slight difference, Calzaghe has not been knocked down as many times as Pavlik even though he has fought for a longer period, and his style is not as dependant on power as Pavlik's.
Why don't you start a thread? I think that there would be a difference because when you go up in weight, the quality of your chin matters a lot. At least that is my understanding. But Joe against Dawson would have a hell of a fight on his hands (but not because of his chin). This is why many Calzaghe and Dawson fans like me want to see these two fight at 175. :good It is the best fight bar none that can be made for Joe after Kessler.
Pavlik looks a little too thin at middleweight, 168 might be better for him. I think he has a good chance against the top fighters at 168.
...I think he can in a year or two. But he shouldn´t start his SMW career with fights against the likes of Kessler or Calzaghe.
