But Pavlik is the same way. His workrate increases through the fight. He stalks and wears down fighters in the same fashion as Calzaghe. Although Calzaghe has proven that he can counter punch as well, something Pavlik has not quite learned

The biggest problem people have with Calzaghe is that they prepare for one style and have no answers when he switches tactics. As well as the fact that he throws 1000 punches a fight from incredible angles and never tires.

Calzaghe is very, very hard to fight. Whereas Pavlik has no plan B and we all know his tactics will be jab, jab, right hand....Calzaghe will easily take this apart.

When have you seen Pavlik need a Plan B?? Did he fail to switch tactics in a loss that nobody knows about??

When did he need to counter punch either? Should have done that instead of just KOing 90% of his competition?

Fact is, you and I don't know about Pavlik's plan B, because he's never needed one.

You make a good point and I agree Calzaghe is much more versatile, and a smarter boxer. Although there is something to be said about a fighter that throw heavy straight as an arrow punches through the middle, anyone can get caught including Joe. I think it could go either way, but Kelly has the best chance to beat him out any fighter.

I believe Pavlik has nothing else to beat Calzaghe, if his Plan A doesn't work then nothing will.

Calzaghe holds advantages in skill, hand speed, counter punching ability, workrate and adaptability. Pavlik's only chance is full steam ahead and try to KO him.

You speak the truth man. There hasn't been a time he would have resorted to another plan, because he has dominated most everyone that he has faced. Whereas Calzaghe has had to, even in some fights where you would think he didn't.

I hope the fight never happens. I like Pavlik but I think JC seriously outclasses him. It's a fight that KP doesn't need to take.

I'd prefer KP to fight Abraham and then Kessler.

    Indeed.

I would love to hear the people criticizing his game plan to name a fight, and tell what he should have done differently.

Pavlik could have a whole other world of **** up his sleeve, but if what he is coming out of the gate with leaves allmost every fighter he's ever faced KO'd, what the hell should he do different?:hey

Will the fight be at 168 cause if it is I believ Pavlik has a very good chance. At 175 I think its too big a weight jump in too short a time.

The same was said about Kessler not ever having to resort to a plan B and all his fans said the same thing. "Why fix what's not broken". Pavlik has the tools to beat Calzaghe, but it's gonna be the smarts he'll need to go with them.

Assuming Pavlik did beat Calzaghe this year at, lets say 168. Where does he rank p4p for you and in an atg sense?

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

pavlik got 3 rounds to put JC to sleep. putting him on his ass is no good as he will come back macho man and throw the kitchen sink into every punch and it is going to get brutal his hands may be shot and he does not have to put power in them but you have to remember he has stopped 32 fighters.

as soon as the first 3 rounds over JC will beat him up badly down the straight while pavlik looks like a deer stuck in the headlights.

JC has everything pavlik only has the jab. i would not be surprised if JC counter punched the full fight from the outside going in once or twice a round to unload a massive flurry and take the round in his favour

From what I've read, Calz has stopped 2 fighters, and the other 30 had the ref wave it off in the middle of a super flury.

It's not about whether Pavlik has needed another gameplan, of course he hasn't otherwise he'd have lost. All I know is he damn sure needs one against Joe Calzaghe, he ain't one of those ****ing ZZ Top boys you big up so much; Zuniga or Zertuche. It's about whether, given his skillset, there is scope for him to do something different

He's hardly going to stand there and counterpunch Calzaghe and get all cute on us is he? :rofl

Given he's much slower, has inferior handspeed and defence there is virtually no chance he has the tangible assets to do something else when you think about it logically. That is the key difference. Calzaghe can stand off and jab. Calzaghe can jab his way in and flurry. Calzaghe can infight. Calzaghe can counterpunch. Why can he do it? He has the skillset.

Pavlik's skills are work-rate jab, righthand and heavy hands.

Calzaghe is fast agaisnt Light Heavy's and Super Middleweight, but Pavlik is use to fighting Middlewieghts. I'm not taking away from his speed, but it's not like Pavlik hasn't seen quick fighters at his weight class.

That's exactly it! On counterpunching, Calzaghe is ten times better than Pavlik. This is where Calzaghe's experience shines and where Pavlik is most exposed.
