Yet again Chris Byrd enters the ring with a strategy that is almost certain to fail. Getting into a slugging match with a slugger is generally a bad idea, yet Byrd at times decided to trade punches with Povetkin. He even tries to play rope-a-dope, but forgot to use the same sort of psychological warfare that Muhammad Ali used on George Foreman. What is the point of taking a lot of physical punishment if you aren't wrecking your opponent's mind? In short, Byrd did nearly every thing wrong and made things unbelievably easy for Povetkin. Does Povetkin really believe that this level of performance will be enough to beat Eddie Chambers or Wladimir Klitschko?
I doubt that was Byrd's plan. The problem with a game plan is that your opponent has one too. As Iron Mike once said, everybody has a plan until they get hit.
I wanted Chris Byrd to win, but knew it was very unlikely. However, i feel differently when it comes to Chambers and Brock.. I think Calvin Brock has a solid chance...
Bryd should have gone back to his old stick-and-move boxing style. The fans don't like it, but it was his only chance.
:good Standing ovation for that response, even though that should be common knowledge. You can't say that Byrd did everthing wrong by using this plan. That makes it sound as if Byrd had a set plan, and had to stay with it for the duration, even if it wasn't working. They said the same thing when he fought Wladimir. If a plan is not working, the cornermen will see it, and will instruct their fighter to change whatever is not working........ Duh!!!!! If Byrd's plan was not working, I am sure he tried to alter it, cause it'd take a fool to do something that was not working, and then keep on doing it for the rest of the fight. :-( Byrd was beaten, and he had the option to do, change, alter, or tweek ANY part of his plan that he chose, at ANY point in the fight. If there was anything he could have done to have helped his performance, you can bet he'd have done that, regardless of what the initial plan was. :good
Exactly. The problem with Byrd's stick and move plan was that it conflicted with Povetkin's cut the ring and slug plan.
Povetkin could beat chambers but not Wlad, if he decides to trade with Wlad he better hope he has a granite chin or he will find out the hard way. Im not saying he has no chance against Wlad, considering Wlads weak chin and stamina issues, but he will have to fight a smart fight by not staying in Wlads firing range too long and makes sure he leaves something left in the tank for the later rounds.
Wlad is the one not willing to trade in this particular matchup. Wlad's idea of an inside game is grabbing his opponent. It depends on the referee, because that is an illegal tactic. Wlads fight is outside, no trading.
Byrd had plans to move and box, but Povetkin's ability to cut off the ring and make opponents fight his fight is what did Byrd in. He had to fight back or he was just going to be a punching bag on the ropes or in the corners.
Yes, but in the middle rounds thats when Wlad lets his hands go, if he leaves something in the tank he will be able to fire back as well. I would like to see Povetkin go right at Wlad in the 1st round and see if he could shock Wlad a little bit, other than he should look to get on the inside and do what can.
Chris Byrd has been trying to change his style for years, but it hasn't been working. He even talks about it in interviews. I think he is caught up in his own dreams and delusions. Like many boxers he pumps some iron, pretends it makes him stronger, then he goes out and proves it is all a myth in every fight. If you have the genes to be a featherfist that is all you are ever going to be. It's like Cus D'Amato would say: "Men born round don't die square." By the way, if you really believe any of that nonsense, then you are as delusional as Chris Byrd.
It depens on Poetkin's physical strength at this time and how to time the uppercut inside - if he can break Wlad's clinches we might have a very good fight...
Haha! You are joking, arent you, mate! "will be enough to beat Eddie Chambers?????" Eddie Chambers?? He is no match for Povetkin.Would be surprised to see him last the full route of 12 rounds against Povetkin.
He had a problem with past prime Byrd who deployed a losing strategy. Chambers is in his prime and isn't going to stand in front of Povetkin and provide him with an convenient target.
