He was once a very respected prospect. Was Rahman a meaningless victory?

He needs to step up. his WBA "Regular" title is a paper title, he needs to man up and challenge Wlad or retire.

It was meaningless because Rahman was quite shockingly finished in every respect and was clearly just there to get paid, which is fair enough, when you don't have it any more there's no way to get it back, and he needs money to live, so whatever. But deriving any meaning from such a win is foolhardy. Povetkin doesn't excel in any way, his lateral movement is **** and either Klitschko or Haye would smash him to pieces.

    Of course it was meaningless.

Everyone knew it was meaningless from the second the contract was signed.

Rahman has been washed up for years. He wasnt even that special to begin with!

I remember think he was washed up when he fought Wlad 5 years ago!

I dont see what purpose he has if he cant defend his belt like a true champion. Fights with Price or Helenius could be pretty entertaining. Shame

If he's not going to fight Wlad he needs to fight one of

    Price
    Fury
    Wilder
    Mitchell

that will get my respect, people might say Arreola, Adamek etc but i don't want to see those guys again, i'm sick of them, take on a young unbeaten guy who's hungry

Taking on Rahman has done him no favours at all. His competition lately has been weak so until he steps up, then he's open to abuse. Last night was a total and utter disgrace. It's not Rahman's fault, he should NEVER have been in there last night.

Rahman victory is beyond meaningless. Rahman was a C+ class fighter in his prime, this is a Rahman years past his prime. The punch Povetkin landed wasn't even a power punch that started the finish. Not a fan of Rahman but that was a really disgusting fight to watch, hopefully Povetkin will fight Wladimir or someone worthwhile.

One of the reason that MMA took so many boxing fans is than in MMA they respected the stars and big names, no mather if they fought in not so attractive way (GSP, Machida) or are not every time on top form (Anderson Silva).
In boxing the champions are very often critisised. Look at the tough fights that Povetking had in last 5 years - Two very attactive bouts with Huck and Chagaev, beat then unbeaten Eddie Chambers, scored the second loss of Byrd in last previous six years.... What more you want?
Now he looked great, with speed, movement, combinations. It's not Povetkin problem, that Rahman came just to take his paycheck.

I respect that he's a talented and accomplished heavyweight. I don't think Boswell, Huck and Chagaev were anything wrong at all. The title he has is wrong, though. And, let's face it, on paper, off paper, even the people slagging off the Rahman fight, who really thought he'd be that god awful? Even those that thought he'd have only the slimmest chance, did you really think it would be that ****ing bad? Be honest. It's not like Povetkin made him the worst he's ever been. The only thing Povetkin needs to do to turn sentiment, in my opinion, is lose 5-10 pounds, sign to fight Volo, get in the ring with Volo, give it his best, win or lose, and if he loses as expected, deal with it graciously, and most of the people on his ass are going to forget all about their intense dislike of him and the lousy show he's been the star of lately.

I think, basically, he hasn't been happy with the way things played out, hasn't been getting up for training for these fights the way he should have, because he didn't think he had to(and apart from Huck, he would've been right that he didn't, even if he should've), probably wanted to face Volo to begin with and got steered hard away by his backers, and will give it a good shot if he is allowed to take his opportunity. An opportunity that he did very much earn and he is the standout challenger to the real throne, despite how distasteful the mess and his conditioning seems to have gotten.

The only reason he looked great is because his opponent wasn't supposed to be there. Anyone would look great against that, that's the reason they picked this fight.

And please don't mention garbage like MMA, we're discussing an actual sport not human chicken fighting in a cage. MMA didn't "take" **** for fans, the only ones that say stuff like "Boxing is losing to MMA!" are ******ed skin-head trailer park trash. This isn't a competition, MMA is something and boxing is something totally different.
