Can Price win a belt?

They were talking of him fighting Dave Allen on October 15th and then Joseph Parker on the AJ undercard.

Now they're talking of Price-Allen fighting on November 26th instead, I liked the Parker fight, Price can crack no matter what else you may think of him, he'll always have a punchers chance against anybody.

 

Just rubbish to suggest his problem stems from his ability to take a shot. His chin is no better or no worse than most heavyweights- if a guy of 16/17 stone hits you flush then you're going down.
His problem is his complete inability to retain distance and keep the fight at the long range his abilities need to work.

 

I hear what you're saying but I dunno, range finder jabs seem to back him up and put him on unsteady legs. I think your criticisms of him are accurate but he has a glass jaw too.

In conclusion he needs to improve his defence and give Gavin from autoglass a call.

 

I dont know if i judge price too harshly but i dont rate him at all. I d go as far to say hes never really been that good if you watch his fights back. Even back when he seemingly had his confidence when he was knocking half decent names over. Hes got height reach and punch power going for him. But every other aspect of his games not good enough for world level so much so that his big assets dont really matter. I think he d put in pitiful performances against any serious contenders. For no other reason than hes just not good enough.

Tony thompson was finished fighting away from home. And still beat him twice. The first time with a pretty mediocre punch second time he completely folded him. Price gave up at one point. Then teper beat him in his 15th fight giving away height reach etc.

Do hope price proves me wrong...cause would like to see him do well. And i d look forward to some of the fights being bandied about at the minute involving him cause he still does have a punch...but not holding out too much hope for his chances tbh.

I honestly had more hope for audley coming good than price. Audleys biggest problem that he never did get over was freezing. If he could have got over that he would have at least had a chance. Whereas if price got over it he still probably wouldnt be good enough imo.

 

At one point David Price had the confidence and used his physical advantages, although the stamina issues were there but since the first Thompson fight he appears a different fighter. He appears almost timid and afraid to let his hands go. It's okay fighting low ranked opponents but it will not help in the least because at some point he will need to step up again, i don't think an AJ fight will land in his lap no matter how many times he mentions knocking out AJ in sparring. He does seem an okay guy, but i think his time has come and gone. There are to many danger men in the HW division that can crack.

 

Lets put things in perspective tho...price was blowing over has beens up till the thompson fights. Theres only 4 or 5 names we ve heard of...a 43 year old skelton. A 40 year old audley harrison. John mcdermot sam sexton and tom dallas.

No disrespect to these guys cause they d all batter me anyway. But in terms of world level there not doing anything with anyone. If price was any good he would have beaten that version of thompson pretty handily.

He came out brought it to these guys and crumbled them early. But he did always lack confidence. Looks unsure of himself at times in a fight even back when things were going well. Its now worse because of the setbacks but it has always been there. Even watching his debut against a guy no ones heard of. I m actually amazed he done so well was it in the olympics. Has a poor chin. Always looks labouress. No stamina. Not fast.

Was he just knocking guys over in the amatuers? There actually making a mistake with him imo atm. Its like there trying to get him to box take his time try new things etc. With the amount of things he lacks the longer he stays in a ring the more dangerous it gets for someone like him especially that he actually has power.

I d honestly get him fast sharper hitting with power. Get him in there going for the kill early. Turn him into a three round fighter if need be. Absolute stupid tactics for anyone else but i reckon it would be prices best shot. I think he d fold a lot of people fighting like that. He still cant control distance. Still looks unsure of himself. Still has a fragile chin. Still cant jab. Still lacks belief. The list goes on and on tbh. At this stage and bearing in mind his age i dont think there ever gonna improve. Make it easy for him...get in there and take the other guys head off.

Get him fighting regularly keep upping the opposition slightly then see where it takes him.

 

In his last fight , he was so slow and laslustre he looked like a journeyman.

 

Yeah i dont think adding two stone on hims gonna help. Makes him even slower almost seems lethargic in there.

But maybe worth a shot...cause they definetely need to try something different with him. Think their thinking is he ll take a shot better and his power will be even heavier. The way i see it tho it ll only lead him to be hit more plus he ll not be able to land with his own power shots cause hes so slow.

Watch his fight with McDermott a round 1 KO. All the commentators were raving for taking out "a tough customer like big John". But McDermott was a total plodder and he still walked through Price's jab and backed him up on the ropes. I said then he was going nowhere. And an accident waiting to happen.

 

He's needs to get a chin from the Wizard.
