I'd suggest you are undervaluing the investment required by GBP to turn Primetime into a channel of even Satanta proportions.

I would say to take on SKY effectively for boxing exclusivity you are talking hundreds of millions over a sustained period. The channel obviously lacks serious investment and infrastructure plus (and here's the crux) boxing doesn't make anything like enough money in this country to make this investment it worth while. You would need GBP and Top Rank to join forces to push primetime into any sort of competition. They aren't going to do that, why should they honestly give a **** about the UK boxing fans, it just isn't worth the potential gains. Especially when they have a risk free alternative in SKY to offer high quality broadcasts to the widest available audience.
A more likely scenario is that GBP will try to get SKY to put more fights on not less with SKY unlikely to be overly interested due to audience viewing numbers.

So if the gulf between Sky and Khan is so vast, GBP have a choice.
Either pump hundreds of millions into a tiny niche market TV channel or become more realistic when dealing with SKY in future.
RS is a smart man, I'm sure he knows where his bread is buttered for the UK fight audience and its a distraction they don't need.
Team Khan may be told to swallow their pride for longer term gain.

And you are underestimating the amount of money it costs to set this up, and the corresponding amounts of money the UK public are prepared to pay for boxing and MMA. As much as you and I enjoy watching boxing there just isn't the demand, and therefore profit, currently in the UK.

Sorry if that pisses on your strawberries a touch.
