this is one of the reasons why i hate boxing, a fighter who has never been regarded as the best in any division he fought in being touted as a possible 4 weight world champ, what a joke

    In a nutshell yes.

I think Katsidis is great, but lets be honest he was very shopworn by the time he fought Burns. Broner is a young up and comer, plus guaranteed US exposure, but he chose to stay in UK. It was the easier fight, as the blueprint has been set a few times.

Plus might I say, Burns himself said he wanted the Ring belt and unify, but when Broner became his mandatory, suddenly he couldn't make weight.

his name is miguel cotto, quite a good pugilist maybe you should check up on him newb, other good fighters around today would be floyd mayweather, manny pacquiao and sergio martinez

I think he should aim to beat the other champs at Lightweight instead of moving up looking to pick up belts.

Establishing himself as the clear number 1 at lightweight I think would be better than being a belt holder in a couple different weights.

broners hardly proven and would have been the home fighter the promotee had invested in, why fight him when you can fight a better name in kats?

If Burns had beaten Broner people would just be saying he'd only defeated a young, untested, hype job.

Just three more to go...:blood And Aaron Pryor Junior is only one behind that so he'd probably be next in line to get that precious 4-division distinction.

Broner would not fight here in britain. No way is Ricky getting a decision over there. Bottom line this fight was gonna go the 12 rounds cant see either achieving a KO.. Pointless saying Ricky ducked him it clearly made no sense. Burns beats Broner on point in a neutral venue very close good fight( Cant see it happening though). I think Burns will be a 3 weight champion is made for 140lbs, I hope he unifys one of the divisions to show he really is World class

I agree with this point but....

Sure you must then think the same in regards to Miguel Cotto's claims to be a "3 weight world champion"? Although he did fight some top fighters during his WBO 140lbs title run, he won the vacant title and then moved up to 147lbs, won another vacant title (and then another vacant title after losing to Margarito). In fact, the only reigning champion he's beaten in his career was Yuri Foreman - and nobody was mistaking him for the best 154lbs fighter in the world.

I'm not having a dig at Cotto as I'm a fan of his, but the claims to being a multi-weight "world" champion of many boxers don't hold much weight with me. It's become more frequent with the additions of weight classes and the increase in alphabelts. Only a handful are legitimate multi-weight world champions really.

I'm just not sold on Burns. His Super Featherweight 'reign' was truly awful even for today's standards.

When he finally got a chance to shut guys like me up and beat his dangerous mandatory challenger on the big stage he suddenly can't make weight? This is when he was talking about unifying belts. Sorry, it is clearly a dodge. Fighting Katsidis who had lost two of his three previous fights is hardly better.

Calzaghe got huge praise finally for what he did to Lacy. Some people will go down the 'hypejob' route, but not me, Broner was a great fight to make. And those who say 'why should Burns go to the states? He is champ.' Loads of champs go to other countries, we are just spoilt that many of our guys stay at home.
