ricky burns is 12 unbeaten since carl johanson,he's improved under Billy Nelson but will he be good enough at european and world level? comments!
european yes.not sure about world.i was impressed with him against gomez though even if gomez was poor
If the Mitchell fight does happen for the WBO I think Burns can do it. But he has to start fast and get a few rounds in the bag early. If he does that and forces Mitchell to chase the fight he can then pick him off perhaps and keep him at bay with the jab. Would be a great occasion and a great fight. One I would head down south for.
I can see Martinez beating Mitchell and then Burns beating Martinez. Burns has the style to beat him by keeping him at range, the way nicky cook was beating him before he got involved and got cought.
Would like to see him against Cook or Foster (or even Arthur again if he hadn't moved up) before I could say for sure. I'm optimistic though - been to see him a few times and he's improving all the time.
wish Johanneson was still about so we could see that rematch, i think burns should have beaten him that night if he used a different game plan. Everytime he got the jab going Carl could do nothing but then Ricky stood and let Johanson get his shots off.
I dont think he is world class, but maybe if he gets a weak champ he might get there, If the Mitchell fight does happen Burns would have to completly school him or stop him to get a win imo. I think the Gomez fight flatter's Burns greatly.
Burns has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, I think since he got stopped by Johannsen he has really matured and developed.. :good
mossy 141 the most important person ricky burns hasn't overlooked kevin o'hara,of that i assure you,i respect kevin's coach john breen who is the best coach in northern ireland and a friend.both boys know there in for a hard nights work.
Burns wasn't stopped by Johanneson. He was down 3 times I think(although that could be down once and hurt twice, I can't remember) and at times he boxed very well. But he just stood in front of Carl at times and Burns isn't the most durable of fighters(not that he's chinny or anything, he can just be worn down) so Johanneson's big shot worn him down and made it Johanneson's fight. Oh and O'Hara is causing an upset here, sweat Pea's a decent fighter but he's not on the level of Buns and he's pretty small for a Super-Featherweight too.
ricky burns is a totally diffrent fighter to the one carl beat,i hope he produces a performance for his fans next week they are a great bunch.
Completely agree. He'll win a European title but will be found out at world level. Gomez is shot and he didn't exactly waltz to the win, did he.
