I think people may be sleeping on rigondeaux's power a bit. He has shown serious pop in his left hand especially lately
rigo is quicker and dangerous, but he flagged against that japanese fellow and wont have the strength to keep loma off.
Definitely possible. He's a guy that often seems bored in the ring, and at times fights to the level of his opponent. It takes an actual threat to make him focus and get locked in. My only question is how sharp he still is at his age, paired with the weight jump, and size disparity. Lomachenko's face will start to knot up after a few rounds of getting tagged, which can create doubt in a fighter. We all saw what Marriaga did to his face in half a fight. Rigs will be landing more.
Rigondeaux seems a very sharp puncher. It's more a crisp, sharp type power, than a bludgeoning staggering type. He's caused severe facial injuries to multiple opponents, broken bones, hematomas, etc. He broke Donaires eye socket with a single shot. Donaire also had a swollen pumpkin face after the fight. He broke Dickens jaw in two places with a single shot. He pounded Amagasa's face, and made him look like some type of deformity. Anybody who noticed the knots under Lomachenko's eyes after the Marriaga fight, where he hardly got hit, should fear for Lomachenko's face. I can only imagine how that tender skin and facial structure will react to Rigondeaux's sharp power.
He's hospitalized an alarming number of his opponents, or put them away quickly or both. 8lbs doesn't make that go away. He's going to have very good power even against a much bigger opponent. He slothified a much larger (larger than Lomachenko) fighter and broke both sides of his face. You can't sleep on Rigo's power here. I think it is more likely he stops Lomachenko than the other way around. Rigo's chin might be questionable but he never gets hit twice in a row. This is the key to being a great defensive fighter. If Lomachenko is getting too aggressive and walks into one of those nasty left hands it could very likely break something.
Rigo is going up 2 weight classes here, theres a reason loma wont come down, even to 128. Hes trying to give himself as much advantage as he can, loma could still probably do 126 he only moved up so bob could get oscar a title. I hate to say it but loma will probably be too much at 130
some good replies I really cant wait for this fight. I cant beleive loma is such a big favourite with the bookies. I love loma and his style but I think his agressive nature might be tailure made for rigo and I think rigo will win wide on points.
Rigo is in his 40s (open secret) and is naturally the much smaller man. If he somehow wins this, especially with it being at 130, it will be one of the greatest wins of all time. Period. I've said before, but can you picture if he won this then just trying to imagine how good he would have been as a pro in his late 20s? Wow. I think the size & weight disparity is too much for Rigo to overcome
Rigo can't be far away from 40 years old, surely not the fighter he once was. Lomachenko will be the biggest fighter he has also faced, let alone the most talented. Lomachenko is also active....... All the positive vibes are on the bigger stronger, younger, more active boxer. I think Rigo gets stopped. Excited for the contest though
