He may have a slight shot, depending on what type of shape he comes in. He's got some skills, speed and decent power to do some things in there especially early on, but he is severely undersized for A Heavyweight and it shows in this fight. I think Parker wins, but it won't be an easy task.

 

I don't know. Kevin Barry isn't coming across like his confidence is high, he seems to feel they didn't have a good camp and is already working on lowering expectations. He's done it before and it was easy to assume that he may be just playing mind games but then sure enough - when he's done that, Joe has delivered less-than-his-best performances.

I haven't seen Andy deal with anyone like Joe yet to get how he'll cope with it, Parker has survived and decisioned Takam but it was too close for comfort. Whether you count that as a good or a bad thing to have in his past - I don't know. One thing for sure, I definitely count him as having a chance.

With the power, speed and way more serious preparation than he has ever had going on - Andy should NOT be underestimated in this fight. Barry says Ruiz should be considered the favourite but I am not sold on that either, Parker is taller, more reach, historically been in better shape and fought at the higher level... unless there is something Barry has seen or knows from camp that we don't.

Parker seems excited and optimistic. That can't be a bad sign, though I find the whole him and Barry disagreeing in preparations thing a bit weird and disconcerting.

Nonetheless, whether it's just me not knowing enough, being biased or whether there is not enough info for me to call it - I am viewing Parker as the A-side in this fight and I am hoping he wins! Can't wait till next weekend, we're going to be having a big night there

Andy is a 3 tool fighter with a question mark on a 4th, which will be answered in this fight I suppose.

He's got great offensive skills, jab, hook, hand speed, combination punching and has the footwork to get his work done.
He's got good defense. He's no Rigo or Lara, or even a Malik Scott, but for a hefty fellow, he's got good head movement and does a good job controlling the distance of his opponent.
VS Liakovich it was lacking b/c he had only the jab and the L hook to stave off a still crafty and tough Liakovich.
What we know he lacks is dedication to his craft. Not saying he should hire a nutritionist, or be a gym rat, but he owes himself his best chance in every fight of his career, and being so grossly out of shape is either a testament to his self belief, or a sentiment of lack thereof.
We'll also see his chin thoroughly tested. Andy's not gonna be able to stave off everything Joey does, and somethings gonna find home, so we'll learn if his chin is a grade A or an abysmal F or a serviceable C.

Joey Ps been tested. He could lose a decision here, but tagging that soft midsection with thumping R crosses should win rds big for him, and IMO, he will take a TKO/RTD type win or a closer than expected decision involving a KD of possibly both fighters.

Kevin Barry is just hyping the fight because it's a terrible mismatch.

Andy Ruiz is bad. Parker will win easily, likely early.

 

They both have similar style with decent power, fast hands and can throw good combinations, the difference is that Parker have size and shape to his advantage, Parker have better resume as well.

Looking forward to this fight, it's a lot more competitive than people make it out to be.

That's not a future heavyweight champ.

If he wasn't Mexican and promoted by Bob Arum, nobody would know who he was. He's done nothing in the ring to warrant any attention. He doesn't hit hard. He has zero defense. He's won a number of lop-sided decisions against nobodies in fights where it appeared he barely edged them.

He's not good at anything, really. It's a bad fight.

Parker will win easy. It's a classic example of a guy (Ruiz) who got a vacant title shot because he was with the right promoter.

That's it. Alexander Dimitrenko would beat Ruiz. (A totally shot Sergei Liakhovich DID beat him, and got robbed.)

Parker by KO in a two ... maybe three. Maybe less.

After Ruiz loses this, Arum will dump him. And Ruiz will lose to everybody and their brother going forward. He just isn't good.

At heavyweight anything can happen all it takes is one good punch. But I have Parker the heavy favourite in this match up.

What we've seen of Ruiz Jr so far has been less than impressive. He's a 3-4 round fighter who's dangerous early but then tires horribly due to weight issues and then basically becomes a sitting duck who any good heavyweight would use as a punching bag. And even in those early rounds Andy is there to be hit.

Now Ruiz Jr has supposedly lost weight and maybe this will become a factor. But I doubt he'll show up under 240lbs which would still make him obese. Maybe he'll be better at the lower weight and be a threat for longer but it may also mean he's easier to hurt. Arreola was always more vulnerable to being hurt when he dropped weight, I recall he was hurt in at least one of his earlier fights which had people questioning his chin, he was hurt by Molina when at a lower weight and of course when he was lower in weight against Stiverne in the rematch he was stopped. Coming in at a lower weight might just see him get KO'ed quicker.

I expect Parker to start off slowly wait for Ruiz Jr to tire and then take him out in the middle rounds when he is more vulnerable.

 

Absolutely right. I can just add the fact that Ruiz won't be even a gatekeeper. Ruiz would be even a worse champion than Martin... He will fade away after his loss next week. It's just a good way for his promoters to milk some money from the cow.

gameplan for parker is easy to work out
keep it long and get in and out for 3 or 4 rounds
use his feet to not let ruiz get inside
from round 4 ruiz is a spent force
his punches from then on are telegraphed/slow and have no power at all on them.
he is also wide open to everything in parkers arsenal and even if he proves to have a rock for a chin / sustained punches will break it down and he will fall.

parker is 2 to 3 classes above ruiz in all aspects of boxing.

 

But gee, Ruiz is ranked in one of the top slots by his organization, so that must mean he's a top hw right? Be consistent!
