I was just wondering about this. Blue Chip will IMO be the best opponent Taylor has fought to date. I'd pick him confidently over that same pair of shopworn versions of Miguel Vázquez and Viktor Postol. That said, TTT is also by far the biggest step up to date for Martin. Compelling match-up.
There's been a bit of hype about Ryan Martin from the USA for a while now. I'm surprised this fight isn't getting more traction.
Where have you seen hype? I've felt like the one lone crazy old man shouting from the mountaintops about him for a while now...
Well, it remains to be seen if Martin is as good as Postol. But unlike Postol, he's in his young and in his prime. Martin is DEFINITELY better than shot Vasquez, and the complete bum that is Ohara Davies. Could be one of the fights where Taylor wins, and the loss actually makes Martin a better fighter.
I should have phrased it better. Hype from those in his circle and those that have worked with him in the gym. I've heard great things about him for a couple of years now.
I also have made a few threads about him or atleast a few posts. i saw him years ago on a boxing programme on channel 4. i said that boy has the goods. I think taylor will be too seasoned and tough for him though right now!
I'm not saying this is what will happen, you let's not forget once upon a time there was Ward vs Kessler. Nobody thought Ward was anymore than decent, and Kessler was expected to kill him... similar to what we have here. Not saying Martin will ever be in Ward's league, I'm just saying it this has the makings of a compelling matchup. Martin does have a very solid skill set.
@CST80 this is very much a "my guy vs. your guy" type of deal...you've been talking up Taylor forever (and I've barely seen any of him, just highlights) while I've been quite high on Martin but can't remember ever seeing your two cents on him (not sure you've caught much of him?) Although I have to say, I slightly favor your guy.
Taylor is favored by many to win the WBSS. Kessler was favored by many to win the Super 6. Martin is thought of as one of the weakest links in the WBSS. Ward was thought of as one of the weakest links in the Super 6. Beyond that, the comparisons are not the same, but those two aspects are the same.
