Can somebody explain to me why tall, skinny fighters are usually the huge punchers?

Akinwande had some pop when he wasn't clinching, Valuev had power too but just so long as you could his clubbing shots you were safe. Dimitrenko isn't featherfisted either. But yeah, your point is definitely true for the most part.

1.Leverage/physical mechanics/ you hit harder punching down
2.Good punching supposedly comes from the whole body, esp. the legs. Bad punching comes from arm punching.
3.Oh, taller guys hit harder than little guys. Knock me over with a feather. Besides just having the muscles of a proportionately larger man, if a guy is taller and has a lower fat percentage that means he also has a higher percentage of muscle mass. The muscle looks lean because it's spread out over a long frame, but if you shortened them to the size of their opponents their muscles would be massive. The muscles are only skinny because they are stretched.

Think of the body as the rotating mass - this gives the power or provides the power. The arm delivers it. If you have a longer arm you will deliver a harder blow.

Think of the arm as a cheater/breaker bar.

many ways to describe it. overall though it's a very complex issue many things go into it and the motion although it can be simplified is not so straight forward.

There are many tall fighters who can't punch hard, punching power is all about leverage and timing.............

Short or tall, punching power comes from technique - the concerted action of the whole body - and the timing to deliver that at the right moment with precision. It ain't about muscles. Of course, there's plenty of short guys who can do this too, but then reach does give you extra options if you're good enough to utilise it.

i beleive in the old addage punchers are born not made

you can teach technique but the power is just natural.

for every one tall skinny lanky guy with good power / this type of fighter body shape also produces a 100 who are pauli mallignaggis

from what i have seen of washington the man is a natural athlete and he trains serious as a professional should and looks cut in the photos of him i have seen preparing for deontay.

problem he has going by the mansour fight is that to use an anology , washington is a 400m sprinter in a 1500m race

punchers come in all sizes and shapes from chocalito to rigo to thurman to gstring to charlo to krusher to bronzebiatch. its about speed and leverage. but to catch some one with that you need timing.

Some guys are just punchers. Lean muscle moves faster and is more explosive than fat or no muscle.
