Can somebody explain to me why tall, skinny fighters are usually the huge punchers?

Nah, I just think slim people can punch too. There's many slim people who leverage their shots like Julian Jackson, Gerald McClellan and some other skinny boxers did yet they never could get the same result. Natural punchers are just like that. Slim or muscle bound, they're just natural punchers

Another very skinny natural puncher I would list would be Merqui Sosa, very skinny yet hit very hard

cause tall skinny fighters are the largest talent pool to draw from. when you cut weight down to the bare necessity, what you have left is the thinest version of that particular bodys height.

Most of what you write is correct. But unless the 6.5' guy is super skinny, 40 lbs. of muscle is a tremendous amount, & they will not still be skinny. If AJ was 215 he would be skinny, but at his heaviest I recall 254, he had a lot of muscle.
Likewise Wilder at Ali's prime weight/his lightest, 212.5, adding 40 lbs. of pure muscle would be pretty heavily muscled. Especially that in order to reach that size he finally would need to get some legs...

But there is nothing suspicious about a tall guy getting jacked.
There are tons of these people in all sports, some bigger than AJ ever was, & some juiced, some lifetime natural.
Bigger bones (& to some extent height) is correlated with potential size.

Here is a good reference point for natural potential which considers bone structure & even mucho food/bulked, in measurements & weight at certain body fat levels.
The website has much other good resources too.
10K men were studied for it, & while some will never be able to reach the theoretical potential, some do with only natural androgens & scientific training for years.

The same reason tall skinny tennis players can have powerful serves - timing and technique. The same reason skinny Federer could compete with and often beat muscular Nadal. Muscular physiques tend to be much overrated in most sports. However they are very useful in bodybuilding.
