I'll admit I have not seen much of Joshua Clottey (I happen to be watching Clottey vs. Judah right now). So I was wondering, what are his realistic chances against Pacquaio?

Personally, I just don't think Clottey throws enough. Its a Calzaghe-Bhop matchup. Too much speed, too much output.

And the extra dimension with Pac is that he throws from so many angles CONSTANTLY. Clottey is known to cover and go defensive when a fighter pressures him ala Winky vs Williams.

I've said it before, I think this a stylistic nightmare for Clottey. Lets hope for his sake its at WW and no catchweight.

He's a tough sob, but, I don't see him beating Pacman. Like the poster before me said, he just isn't offensive enough. And he is too slow for Pac.

I don't get the hype around Clottey, Charles if I'm being honest. He is tough, has quick hands which he holdS quite high. His punch output is low and he can go into a defensive shell when things aren't going his way. He has the ability to make a good fighter work very hard for victory but doesn't seem to be able to claim victory against the very best - that's probably the best way to sum the guy up. Pac may struggle because Clottey can take a dig and is a naturally big guy, but I feel he should wear Clottey down to win a clear UD.

He is a defensive boxer-counter puncher

He is very strong physically, being of very dense muscle and bone. He is not a fighter that you can bully

As you can in the Judah fight, he was able to wear Judah down simply by pressing methodically forward.

He is fairly accurate, has an effective jab when he uses it, and has a generally solid orthodox defense. He isnt a KO artist, but he is a strong puncher. His best punches are a lead left, a solid straight right, and a left uppercut. On the inside he throws hooks to the ribs

His general strategy in fight is to press forward, keeping his guard tight, and throwing punches from mid distance. He will close the distance often with a lead left, and counter his opponents shots. Closing the distance he often drops his hands low and will fire hooks to the head and body, and can fire off his effective uppercut.

Clottey posses many weaknesses though. He has only average handspeed, and his footwork is marginal, he tends to come forward or back in a straight line. He can be outboxed, and a strong jab can throw him off considerably.

His low punch output is also a problem, as opponents can outhustle him and beat him on activity.

Speed gives him the most problems, as he has little defense head or body movement. He keeps his guard high to catch punches or block them, he doesnt get out of the way of fast shots.
Footwork and lateral movement are also major issues (Pacs keys to victory). Judah was the smaller man but won rounds by constantly circling Clottey and strafing him with fast jabs and left hands.
He also tends to fight very defensively. While you may not hurt him, an extended offense puts him in turtle shell defense mode, and again this costs him points.

He also has shown little killer instinct. He doesnt press the attach when he has his opponent hurt.

I'd say 25/75 in favor of Manny.

Clottey has some of the tools needed to beat Pac such as a large edge in physicality and size. He's got a great chin and solid defense to go along with it. When he wants to be, he can very intimidating and very good at imposing his will on the opposition. He can be frustrating to fight when you consider all of those tools put together, not to mention it's almost impossible to establish and maintain a pace and a rhythm against the dasterdly turtle shell defense. Something which does play a factor is his use of rough house tactics to off set the rhythm of an opponent.

That said? He lacks the stamina to go 12 hard rounds and he wilts mentally during the "championship rounds." In his two biggest fights, he folded to the will of two better fighters in Margarito and Cotto. He also doesn't have much offensively in the work rate department.

I think he starts strong and then folds at the pressure Pac brings. Not a TKO but a rather wide, convincing decision for Pac.

He is a very dangerous Welter, he is a decent puncher, has a superb chin, has underrated speed, looks great when he is busy throwing but looks awful when he stops. He comes in at about 170 on fight night so he is a big handfull, specially for Pac.

The way I see the Pac Clottey fight is a Pac UD because Clottey does get lazy at the dumbest of times and Pac's activity could sway things greatly.

clottey is a very underrated fighter. believing that he was cheated against cotto and having an entire country behind him he does have momentum. of course, pacquiao has a country behind him to, but after all of that preparation for floyd and all of distractions, this is pacquiao's fight to lose and clottey's to win. in short, if clottey does not dominate the fight, it goes to pacquiao by decision even if clottey should've won because pacquiao is so marketable. however, i think he will impose his size, power, and hunger on pacquiao almost like how margarito imposed is will on cotto. i like both fighters, but clottey is a sleeper who will open some eyes come fight night.

Clottey is going to be by a long shot the biggest, strongest, toughest, most iron-chinned fighter Pac has fought to date.

And his hand speed isn't as bad as people are making it. He's actually pretty quick. And he throws good combos.

I just hope he gets Pac outta there in time for me to get to the club early that night.

As long as Pacman stays disciplined in his boxing, he will keep Clottey turning in circles all night. Clottey will tire before Pac does, and I see Pac taking a very solid UD. Clottey will have his moments, but he just doest possess the tools or the style to make it a way with Pac.

Absolutely. I see Clottey taking the first 2-3 rounds as Pac struggles to figure out the turtle shell and size of Clottey.

After that, I figure Pac will realize that all he has to do is flurry, score points and watch Clottey slowly crumble from the inside.

You make it sound so easy...:think

    I ain't buying it.:nono

Clottey will catch his ass with an uppercut combo, except unlike Cotto, he will be pressing forward and really stepping into his punches. He will not be forced into submission mode like Miguel was.

Margo drove his ass against the ropes prety easily once Clottey quit fighting.
