I just don't see anything special about him except for his chin and inhuman heart. He throws the widest punches I have ever seen. I haven't seen all of his fights, so since everyone I know masturbates to the whisper of his name I'd love for someone to tell me why he is great. Thanks.

I disagree with you. I have now done my obligatory good deed of the day by disagreeing with you.

Truthfully he's got a great feel for the ring, solid defense (turtle shell FTW) and outstanding one punch power. He also throws tremendous uppercuts.

I'm not saying he's bad, I just don't think he is "great." I saw what you said in the other thread and you're right he throws damaging straight punches too. But I don't like how he throws his hooks and that is basic. Like I said, I want to know why he is great, because I don't see it.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is with that.

Thank you. Personally I am not a fan of the turtle shell as imo it is far too passive.

If you have the proper weaponry to get away with it, it's superb. Fighters who know when to step on the gas and have the power to accompany it are at a supreme advantage.

Guys like Clottey? Not so much.

I don't think he can beat Ward.

I must disagree there. Ward is taylor-made for AA. AA will turtle shell and frustrate Ward into mistakes. When Ward gets careless from frustration, the turtle will come out with some heavy firepower. I think it will look similar to Winky vs Trinidad except that AA has way more power and better combos.

Last year, i would have agreed with you, and still do to some extent....

I even thought Taylor would beat AA, how could he not? just use his jab, be a bit more active then AA (which i thought shouldnt be hard) use his legs to stay away when he needs to (again, shouldnt be too hard considering aa is a shell/blocker style fighter with not a lot of activity) ect, ect....

The thing is, sooner or later, you just have to realise the guy may not be the most well rounded fighter, but what he does, he does supremely well.... and the strengths he has, are indeed SPECIAL, and so far, nobody has been able to overcome him.

His speed is underrated, he can explode out of his shell quite well
    His defence is not bad
He is as strong as an ox (special)
    His chin is superb (special)
He is as tough as nails (special)
His power is unquestionable at this point (special) (though i am interested in seeing if it will be the same against a true, natural 168lber like froch and kessler)

Hes the type of fighter that wears you out just by punching HIM.... and the guy ends his fights in brutal, brutal fashion. Again, hes not well rounded, and hes not a scientist in there..... but hes effective and at the end of the day thats all that matters, and one only has to look at how his fights end to see that he is formidable.

The guy is a machine, and im done underrating him

(that being said i do think Dirrell is going to outbox him lol)

This is fair. But I think if you employ it you're just waiting to get outclassed by a quick guy with a jab who comes in and out and doesn't gas.

This is exactly what I use to think myself. Seemed to me just like a Sam Peter type fighter.....strong guy with a good chin and big punch...however I now have a whole different view.

This guy has great ring smarts. He relaxes and uses his turtle shell defense which holds up very well because of his strength. He lets the other fighter tire himself out by hitting so much and doing very little damage. And because of his inactivity he is then able to come out of his shell and throw his punches extremely forcefully do to all the energy he has saved up. Because of his inactiveness in the early part of the fight he is then able to be fresh later on and still possess his great power.

AA also has a great counter punching abily and good speed for a man with his build. Not all his punches are wide either. he has a great uppercut and a great straight right hand which he has used to get brutal KO's.

This guy is a great fighter. Not that much of a fan of his, however I find him a very unique fighter to watch.

Actually, on this forum, his detractors outnumber his fans.

He has a very unorthodox but effective defence.

His second line of defence, possibly the best chin in the game at the minute.

He's economical with his energy consumption, fighting just hard enough to win.

One of the best right now in the 'power' department.

The 'wild' shots you refer to, usually come after a short, devastating punch hurts his opponent.

Until someone figures him out, and beats him, he looks ok.

If you can't see his greatness just from this clip, I feel very sorry for you.
