I seem to remember there was alot of people really excited and alot of money changing hands? Was he a really well known amateur that just didnt convert to the pro ranks well?

The buzz was that he was an Olympic Superheavyweight gold medalist who turned pro. Never really got going in the pros, the BBC paid a lot of money to show his first 10 fights which were predictably poor fights.

He was an Olympic gold medalist and looked like a clone of Lennox Lewis. That was more than enough for everybody, and I do mean everybody to hop onto the Harrison bandwagon.

I remember Holyfield on UK television very much saying he (Harrison) was the next big HW thing: the real deal.

He was like the HW De la Hoya in the UK. He was 6'5, ripped looking, won the SHW Gold Medal, had an outstanding amateur career.

The BBC if I remember correctly reportedly paid him something around 1 million pounds upfront and a million a fight for his first 10 fights.

He was talking himself up to no end and a lot of HWs at the time were considering him the next great champ as well.

It was believed he would be challenging for the title within 15 fights

Obviously we all know what happened. He was the biggest HW bust of the last 20 years

    great summary MJ, cheers :good

i think his heart and his chin are the two biggest things that fail him.. also his technique is still suited more to the amateur ranks

Good boxer but had zero heart for the pro sport. Anybody that punched back he didn't want to know.

I don't know whether he just had no heart for the game or whether he got too much money too soon without achieving anything in the pro game and became complacent and comfortable.

Definitely an example of boxing being "10% physical, 90% mental".

He had all the physical tools, but he DID NOT like to be hit. He would get this wild look in his eyes whenever an opponent threw hard powershots

He never learned the "pro style" either, or rather, it took awhile. He was outpointing fighters that he should have been able to KO

Then there was the fact that his competition was rather dismal. All the talk about being Undisputed champion, and he was fighting guys who barely had winning records

You know he actually had an MMA fight ing 2007? Strikeforce tournament, he got knocked out of course

lmao... I miss the good old days just after the British public realized Harrison was a bust. They tore that guy a new *******. Some of the funniest round by round threads ever.

I almost feel bad for Harrison. He's become a derided parody of himself in the UK, and only hardcore fans know of him in the US, and we all have this outside observer viewpoint of him being a complete joke of a fighter

He doesnt even have real fans in any sense of the word. The only reason people pay attention to him now is to watch him implode
