In hindsight its pretty clear to me that both sides held up the fight at different stages. Money wasn't in a hurry to make the fight, and either was Arum. They both knew the fight was too risky for either and they both maximized their earning potential by fighting and exhausting all easier opponents first before MayPac. It was an unspoken agreement that benefited both sides mutually as well as the networks. It's smart business, but hurts boxing.
I think it's always been obvious that Floyd was always extremely hesitant to get in the ring with Pac. To act like this fight is bigger now than it would have been is odd IMO. I think the contract with Showtime has in some ways forced this fight to happen. If Floyd didn't think the Pac fight was important years ago when everyone was begging for it and both fighters looked to be extremely prime and fighting in the same weight class, I fail to see how 5 years later where both men have declined substantially makes it more important or bigger. Floyd has always said he's his own boss and when you go back and listen to the man talk years ago, it's clear as day he didn't want the fight. There are so many contradictory comments and quotes where it was obvious Pac had him spooked. Just look at how HBO got his panties in a wad. He couldn't stand for Pac's name to be brought up. There has always been jealousy and fear in Floyds voice and words whenever he went on rants about Pac. I don't think I had ever seen a situation where 2 fighters were and are huge draws, were so close to prime, were on winning streaks, and were in the same weight class yet one of them tried for 5 years to convince the world the fight didn't need to happen. -btw- this doesn't mean Pac will win Saturday. But to deny that Floyd has always had major issues with the thought of facing Manny is laughable.
Only part is Roach admitted they had a hand in the fight failing !! So just leave the ducking part alone.
