Can someone explain to me, through his resume, why people call Usyk a top 5 ATG?

I'm just pointing out you can downplay other champions wins in a similar fashion. Frazier's top win was a UD over Ali, but the rest of his resume is not that great (he didn't fight Norton or Shavers either). Foreman got knocked down by both Lyle and Young, and lost to Young. The Liston fights were (allegedly) fixed, blabla.

It looked like AJ quit vs Ruiz, and Fury (officially) didn't lose to Ngannou. Ngannou is a poor boxer but he's still a 275 lb power puncher. AJ handed him one of the most brutal KO's ever, so it's hard to gauge if Fury was unmotivated, shot, scared or whatever of Ngannou.

I remember before the Ngannou fight Fury was lauded as the best HW of all time by many.

Uh, Wilder and Fury fought three times. They're contemporaries. AJ fought Usyk twice. They're contemporaries. Fury and Usyk fought twice. They're contemporaries.

The only fights we missed were Wilder v. AJ and AJ v. Fury. And we still might get those fights, even though they'll be late.

And if that's your big criticism of the era, well, I hate to break it to ya, but the 90s is out the window then, too. Lennox never fought Bowe, Moorer, Byrd, Ruiz, Schulz, or Foreman. All guys who were his contemporaries and held belts while he was an active HW. Same goes for Holyfield, Tyson, etc. They all missed out on fighting plenty of guys in their era who were at the top.

Fury not fighting Kabayel, Wardley, Dubois, Joyce, Hrgovic etc is a big miss in my book. Joshua also missed out on most of those guys aside from Dubois who knocked him out.

Given Dubois beat Joshua why is Fury or Wilder not fighting him as much of an issue as them not fighting Joshua?

Lewis also did a much better job of cleaning out his era then Fury with 10 plus ranked opponents to Fury's 3

What Fury did in this era would be basically the equivalent of someone beating Tubbs, shot Butler, Tucker and old Holmes in the 1990s. And then losing to Holyfield. It's not close to what Lewis and Holyfield did.

Problem with this is, the 90's were much deeper talent wise then what became of the HW division the last 10 years. Guys with low fight activity, not facing their peers as often. And many who just looked in less then serious shape.

    - You think John F Kennedy calling Floyd Patterson not to fight Sonny Liston is a fixed fight? lol You think Liston would Fix a fight where Williams broke his nose?
    - What happened AFTER Foreman lost doesn't matter. Hell,if you are gonna say that, then he became the oldest heavyweight champ so there is that. What happens after a person fights another person is less important. Foreman KOed Lyle so being knocked down doesn't matter as much and George nearly died of a heatstroke after fighting Young, so I think nearly dying justifies that loss. Same reason I don't give Ali credit for beating Williams.

You can't pick appart Ali's resume as easiy which proves just how good he was.
The problem is when you have Floyd fighting Manny after a top 3 most brutal KOs of all time.

Usyk unfortunatly is not that good. And heck, it is kind of evident as I don't really see a lot of the Heavyweight Champions getting hit in the belltline and look at the referee for help as for him to do something or lay down getting all the time in the world

I mean if you can show me someone beating a champion that had 18 consecutive title defenses (putting him at nr.3 for most defenses) and 23 total title defenses (putting him nr.2 for total title defenses) ruling a division for 11 years in the 90s, I must have missed them.
I think people undersell him beating Wlad, but Wlad has his career high win in Povetkin 2 years prior.

Do I think Wladimir was the best thing since Muhammad Ali. No,absoloutely not. But to say that it is the equivelent to beating tubbs?

Beating Wlad even when old was still a good victory as he was coming off of a lot of wins and title defenses. And

I agree right up until the last sentence.

I wouldn't consider fighting Rico as the best available, and the inactivity is definitely working against his legacy.

It's similar to Tyson beating Holmes in 1988. But Tyson has a huge legacy outside that fight while Fury does not. Take out that fight you are not left with much for Fury.

    Get them tested then.

    P4P ATG level, yes.

P4P top 5? Time you did some research.

    First, YDKSAB.

Second, the OP is clearly talking about HWs, not P4P. That's why we weren't supposed to consider his cruiserweight accomplishments. While I'm doing research maybe you can brush up on your reading comprehension skills.

There was mention of P4P earlier in the thread.

Usyk isn't a top 5 all time heavyweight either. Top 10 perhaps? Top 5? No.

By resume? Probably not. By eye test? Absolutely he is. Name 5 guys who clearly, no issues whatsoever beat him on any given night. You can't. He gives everyone hell. Too well rounded. Too smart. Too tough. Too motivated. Too skilled. As well as being a Southpaw which most of the HWs in the Top 10 never once fought in their lives.
