So going to the body of a man 40 years of age is bad advice when nothing else is working?

That was actually his advice from the early rounds. Yes its a bad advice because the only chance he had was to catch Hopkins like he did RJJ, he wont do that by going to the body and not loading up.

i dont think buddy is a bad trainer..he did good work to revitalize gatti's career and he has gotten more than most out of Paulie..I think buddy just doesnt choose his boxers based on if they can get him wins..hes kinda like the samuel l jackson of boxing...if you paying..hes working

McGirt is the worst 'world class' trainer out there. Besides Jack Leowe, but Jack is hardly world class

Buddy gets too much of a bad rap in the boxing world. Yes, lately he hasn't been producing winning fighters, but he is still a good trainer and has done a lot in the past that seems to be overlooked.

here is Buddy McGirt in the corner it does not matter who he is training or what type of skill set that fighter has here is his advice:

"Show me that jab baby he is getting tired baby give me that jab baby show me some head movement baby you have got to box with him baby show me that jab baby he is getting tired baby use some head movement baby I am not going to let you keep taking punches baby show me that jab baby"

    It is almost comical.

Buddy seems like a nice guy but I do not understand why he is considered by some an an elite trainer.

I admit, lately this is the type of crap he has been talking to his fighters, which doesn't say much. But he has done some good work in the past. One thing that still bugs me though is him trying to turn Brewster into a boxer rather than focus a bit more on defense while still sticking to the aggressive brawler style that Brewster naturally has.

What McGirt did to Brewster and Gatti (having him try and box with Mayweather Jr :rofl) is about as bad as what Jeff Mayweather had Sultan Ibragimov try and do against Wlad.

 True true. I'll give you that one. But you have to admit, in the past, he has done some good stuff with fighters...

sure I have nothing against Buddy but he has had a horrible past 3 years or so. It seems like everytime I see him on HBO, ESPN, or Showtime his fighter loses.

He is definitely on a losing streak when it comes to training fighters to win. But hopefully his luck will change soon. All he needs is the right fighter.

How could that be his only chance when he is stalking Hopkins trying to land a big shot? At best his chances are to hit an old man to his body not try to knock his head with a shot he is looking for Tarver to throw.

Just because he ko'd Jones like that one time out of the 3 times they fought . Why would Tarver rely on one punch to do the trick?

That is not good boxing and not the way a trainer should instruct a fighter.

One of my friends thought that Hatton could ko Mayweather to the body just because he had that succes agaisnt castillo. I told him that the odds of winning two consecutive fights with a body shot is going to be low in this scenario.

Again , Tarver couldnt ko Jones with one shot in the first fight or the last fight. For Tarver to go looking for the one shot ko is the best way to lose.

I dont believe Mcgirt had Tarver going for the ko in the 3rd fight with Jones. They had a solid plan of attack and defense.

Obviously Tarver was completely ineffective with what he was doing. Buddy telling him to try something else is the right thing to do. Start going to the body, and then something big might open up upstairs.

Don't forget Carlos De Leon vs James McGirt Jr.

McGirt Sr trained his son on his way to a vicious left uppercut and KO by De Leon when McGirt Jr was a 3/1 favorite to win.
