So dehydrating yourself is beneficial during training camp in order to get into peak physical condition? :huh

Dehydration is basically an old boxing tactic.

The idea behind it is to get to the lowest possible weight so you can compete with guys that is potentially or naturally smaller than you. Thus a natural size and/or strength advantage.

If you weigh in 140 and hydrate at 147 at fight night, you can fight Jr WW instead of WW.

Imagine JMM fighting Margo, Cotto and Berto at 147 since he hydrates back to 144.... exactly. Not pretty.

Pac weigh in and fight at mid to upper 140s. Which is unusual for a WW. Usually they weigh in at 146-147 and hydrate back to low 150s (in some cases upper 150s).

And this is what is dumb about 140 for JMM vs Pac. In the other thread I voted 147. You know why?

Because fully hydrated, JMM and Pac is at WW level (141-147)!!!

Yet JMM wants Pac to go through the dehydrate-hydrate process so he can gain an advantage. He knows that his best chance is the 126-135 version of Pac that was weaker compared to the 147 Pac.

So all this BS about JMM at 140 is just that BS considering both weigh in at WW level at fight night.

Dehydrating has less to do about making you a better fighter and more about selecting the type of competition you want to face.

Guys like to dehydrate themselves so they can face smaller or weaker comp then they would face if they stayed around there natural weight. Margo should have been fighting at 154-160 but he wanted to dehydrate so he can try to fight smaller fighters and use a pressure style.

Cotto at 140 was a more powerful fighter then he was at 147 because he faced weaker fighters. Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey are a lot stronger then guys like Quintana, Mallinaggi, Judah.

If Ricky Hatton fought around his natural weight, with his fighting style he would have gotten knocked out consistently. As he would hav e been facing stronger guys who he would not be able to maul against the ropes eliminating his whole style of pressuring and bullying guys until they break.

Ive sat next to Floyd at a blackjack table. Hes not a big guy. I would find it hard to believe he walks around much higher than the mid 150's. Seriously, hes not a big guy.

The dehydration for Pac would be very minimal though so it wouldn't be a big deal. Pac has shown he can hydrate to 148 as well. Marquez has never shown he can hydrate that high.

They can both make 140 easily, yet at 147 Pac has all the advantages. Though if it was at 147 it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Just Pac would have more of the advantage in that department.

Yes to some extent it is. You can do it safely and have a proper balance. You dont want to be carrying a bunch of water weight that will inhibit your performance the same as you dont want to sap everything out of your body. You ever box or workout in a gym, you would know what it feels like to be lean and mean.

 I’m sold then, and I guess the other "source" is Ellerbe’s guesstimate whilst he was cradling Mayweather Jr to sleep?

Jeff Mayweather when asked about a Martinez fight said Floyd walks around at 155, Floyd is often at Jeff's gym for the record

Its not a matter of fitting my argument, Marquez thinks a 148lb Pacquaio has a notable size advantage over him

Isnt that what Pac does in most of his fights though. Gain an advantage. And if you think it is an advantage to have the fight at 140 for JMM its not. If anything Pac looked great at 140. JMM has only gone above that once and he didnt look the best.

If JMM wanted an advantage he would say 135.

Alot of the things you say seem to have no real basis. Just like how in the later post you classified Judah and Quintana as 140 pounders along with Malignaggi. Quintana is a big WW and Judah well he fought him at WW also.
