I just watched 'J.C. Chavez' (ESPN classic documentary). I didn't know much about Chavez; had just seen a few of his fights e.g. taylor, camacho, robinson etc. I have a couple of things to say about this documentary - JCC is an extremely likeable guy - working class, humble, warrior who got f**cked over by plenty of people - Insight into mexican boxing was fascinating. I liked the little segment they had when Morales was talking about how difficult it is to make it as a boxer in mexico However, the documentary i watched was very poorly put together and i am sure there must be better ones out there. So please recommend me one; i have had a taste and i want to know more about the legend.
I think HBO has a documentary not about the whole Chavez life, but about the thunder vs lightning fight...that I liked....but I also watched the one you said...I believe it was made by Diego Luna wasnt it?
I think the one i saw was the Diego Luna one. I would recommend watching it just to see some of the footage they have. It was interesting to watch Chavez before his last fight with Grover Wiley. He was sitting in his hotel room saying he had not trained at all and that if he couldn't get the KO before the end of the 3rd round that he would lose. He was also having trouble sleeping and was prescribed a sleeping pill which knocked him out pretty much up until right before his fight. He kept falling asleep in the car and changing rooms etc. Great footage but really poorly edited. The documentary doesn't really flow much at all.
