Bivol timing and judging of distance is up there with very best in boxing.

I view Bivol as Canelos biggest challenge between MW- LHW.

One of the most dangerous things about Bivol is that he has the brain to identify what worked for GGG and the talent to execute it (his power isn't like GGG, but he's not a featherfist and is two weight classes higher).

Some of Canelo's other opponents have tried to pull from what worked for Mayweather or Lara, but he's adapted to that stuff because so many decent fighters have thrown it at him.

Bivol can bring the stiff jab with great mechanics, the precise footwork, hard to exploit efficiency, versatile skillset, etc.

I think the question mark is his mentality. He's been on cruise control in his recent fights and if he brings that relaxed attitude he won't win.

to piggy back on what sasto said about what worked for MW and Lara, bivol will be in that same make but in a different manner. His jab imo is up there with the best in the world. His bike is also pretty nice, but he doesnt use it to runaway but to control the ring.

His best attribute imo is his ring generalship. He isnt a 1-1-2 and move guy like BJS (altho that did work well against canelo), hes a control the fight and distance with his jab while cutting off the ring type of guy. His IQ is world class, he will never get caught on the ropes even when backing up like Plant, hes fleet footed and backs up but before he gets to the ropes will pivot out. He's always in control of where he should be, and thus also where his opponent should be. Dont expect him to be walked down by canelo. Its because of this that some peeps will think hes boring.

He picks his powershots and is quite efficient in connecting with it. and regarding his mentality (we are all speculating here), but in my opinion is that hes never been in the ring with a guy who can really push him thats why hes always on cruise control. Why would he need to use his other gears when he can beat decent opponents in 1st gear? This fight could be the breakout party that makes bivol a true star, but at the same time it can expose him for being a fraud.

I like his chances. 7-5 Bivol imo.

Bivol has chosen a limited gameplan for his fighting style, but within those parameters he is top of the charts.

He takes the EE distance control style to a high level, hopping back to neutralize attacks and hopping in to pop off some quick and accurate 1-2s. His jab is particularly nasty. Seems like a basic gameplan, but because of the technical level he has achieved, it is a very effective gameplan. You can see the concentration on Bivol's face when he fights. It is very hard to surprise him or catch him unawares. He has pretty good power too, and may have been a whisker away from knocking current champion Smith spark out. Against Canelo he will have a significant size advantage and he is close to Canelo's speed too.

Here he is against Smith, who I think hits harder, if not better, than Canelo:

Bivol is like a terrier, in and out, landing scorching combos and then backing off when Smith fires back.

Here's a good highlights package on Bivol. Note how he often lands his straight punches in flurries and then steps back instantly to avoid a haymaker. Bivol has great situational awareness

It's pretty funny at the end of the fight when he cuts loose to punish Smith for the pile driver Joe pulled earlier.

That limited gameplan is so important for Bivol. Canelo's nature is to exploit mistakes (and bait guys to make them), if he just executes a mechanically perfect jab and move game I worry for old Saul.

I think he's gone the way of that old Bruce Lee adge. "I don't fear the man who knows a thousand kicks, I fear the man who has practised one kick a thousand times.' Bivol has picked a limited gameplan that works and he's polished it mirror bright. I genuinely think that this might be the hardest fight Canelo might be in so far. GGG is solid everywhere. Bivol is outstanding in a narrow range and combined with his size and reach advantage, it is gonna be hard for Canelo to time him. Benavidez (who has sparred Bivol) thinks that the first few rounds will be tough for Canelo but then he will time him and win. I think Benavidez might be saying this because he himself wants a Canelo fight. I think Bivol's high workrate and stamina are also going to be awkward for ginger to deal with. Honestly: I think Bivol might be able to take this.

You don't school anyone on Bivol, as Bivol schools you.

Issue for his is that it probably goes the distance. And against Alvarez, certainly now Russians are the paria's of the world, you don't want to go to the scorecards for obvious reasons.

    Bivol:

    This content is protected

    • Great combinations
    • Great timing
    • Good movement

    This content is protected

    • Pillow-fisted
    • Very low KO/TKO percentage
    • Terrible stamina
    • Haven't fought a boxer who is as skilled and hits hard as Canelo

So, in first 6 rounds Bivol will use Canelo as a punching bag, but it won't hurt Canelo since Bivol is feather-fisted. After round 6, Bivol will fade and Canelo will knock him out by body punches.

I expect the KO in round 10 or 11.

Whilst Bivol is obviously not as heavy handed as Beterbiev or GGG, I believe he still has decent pop - certainly not "pillow-fisted" - that's a bit of an exaggeration. Benavidez who sparred with Bivol says he hits plenty hard enough

Lol Bivol is not going to come to fight. It'll be another boring sparring session like Canelo Kovalev mark my words.

Well said. Bivol will be there just to receive his retirement paycheck.
No way an American boxer (America continent) will be allowed to lose to a Russian boxer nowadays.
