Can Steve Forbes upset De La Hoya?

Towards the end of this year, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is scheduled to face Oscar DeLaHoya for the second time. But first, Oscar will face the journeyman Steve Forbes. Given that Oscar is passed his prime and possibly looking ahead to Mayweather, is there a chance for an upset here?

    Thoughts.

I think if DLH loses to Forbes then the mayweather fight purse would go down the tubes. DLH's credibility as a fighter would be done and no one would buy PBF v DLH unless people want to see PBF spar. I think PBF would see the loss of money and then focus on another ww titlist or cotto.

Oscar is at that point of his career where every fight is a danger to him. he does not have skills even close to his prime and every fighter that comes at him will be preparing 1000%

i think that a tuneup agains this guy forbes would be a waste of time. at least the fight with mayorga had some value and people gave him respect for it- it had credibility inthe name at least. It even gave him a belt. I think if he tunesup he should fight Trinidad. Although i think he s saving Trinidad for his last fight. Its a fight that has no urgency and he could save for last- in that its always going to be there, always going to fill stadiums , he could get revenge- and he s afavourite to win and go out avenging a loss to retire on.

But my preferred tuneuip would be someone like a Berto- a game up and comer, a Zab judah, a Corey Spinks, a Paul Williams , Even Margarito. A decent name Welterweight Contender who would make Delahoya a contender.

I mean lets face it - big name aside- Delahoya isnt a Contender- if he wasnt famous- he would have to earn his shot at the title like everyone else. He should fight like it - instead of like a businessman. Fight someone who would maek him a number 1 to 5 challenger....I m not into him anymore- he just is lclearly fighting for dollars and spouting the same **** about legacy and how he s in the best shape of his life. He s just looking for the bux- even more so than somene like Floyd.

Yeah, Berto looked impressive on Saturday night. I'm apt to thinking that he might actually be a high risk tuneup for Delahoya at this point. He's a hot shot young prospect with everything to prove and the talent to potentially make it happen. Personally, I'm not even sure why anyone has a demand to see Mayweather and Delahoya fight again. I'd much rather see Floyd fight either Cotto or Quintana at this point.

Regarding the thread question, anything can happen, but its not likely. I think that the real upset question should be, what if Oscar actually beats Mayweather???

    No upset for Oscar.

We all seen what happened in the Felix Sturm fight. Officially he won - but anybody watching that fight knows DLH lost that one.

If Forbes stick and move - we might see the same thing again. There's too much money involved and with Steve being signed to GBP - they may have something worked out, just in case.

There is absolutely no chance for an upset. Forbes is a good boxer, but lacks the size and reach to outbox De La Hoya from the outside. De La Hoya is just too big, too strong, and too powerful. After being competitive with Floyd Mayweather, I highly doubt Oscar would lose to Forbes.

Funny b/c a lot of people (myself included) said the same thing about Q and paul williams. Now that PW lost we disregard him as a hype job. DLH is in no means at the top of his game. The last time we saw him in the ring is May 07, how much has his skills diminished since then? Time is not your friend when you get to DLH's age. Especially if you aren't active.

No, even if he could beat him, he won't. There is a lot of money to be made by PBF/DLH II. Anybody who thinks Forbes has a chance, I have two words for you: Felix Sturm.
