To tell you the truth, I don't think 'common opponents' merits any consideration really, but if you are going to then you may as well use the only two that were in good shape when they fought Tyson and Lewis, and vice-versa (I think Tucker was past-prime when he fought Lewis).

I really find this one so difficult, that's why I started the poll/thread. I can see both sides of the argument, and I see-saw between both views. At a push, I go with Lewis late stoppage or points. But I say that with no real confidence. 1987-88 Tyson's speed and defence would give Lewis all sorts of problems.

Of course mate, you know I'm backing Lewis....just trying to see it from everyones perspective, cover every angle.

And of course, people could say and not without merit, particularly when it comes to Rahman, that Lewis wasn't taking them quite as seriously as he should have been....

Generally when Lewis feels threatened, he turns it on. He would realise the threat of Tyson of course.

No. No no no. Biggs stuck to the plan for a round.

PRIME Mikey was good, but not that effective.

Tony Tucker might have been faster, but about five levels below Lennox.

You need to watch some more boxing :deal

Well, right now, it's about 5PM in the UK. In the U.S., it's not even 9 AM PT. All of European fans are obviously voting for Lewis with maybe a few Americans voting for him right now.

This vote will even out later in the day.

Prime Tyson wins this one. Whether by points or knockout depends how well Lewis protects his chin. We've seen him one-shotted before, Tyson could certainly deliver that blow given the opportunity. Either way Tyson chops Lewis' body all night long and is able to bob and weave defensively to stay clear of Lewis' bombs.

I hate to break it to you, but these arguments aren't exactly persuading me to your point of view. I've seen the fight, and Biggs's jab, quickness, and movement were all negated by Tyson's head movement, power, and explosiveness. That is what eventually wore Biggs down and took him out of the fight, it's not as if he just decided to call it quits on his gameplan for no reason.

    Tyson KO 5.

The longer the fight goes on the more it favours Lewis and I would pick Lewis by late TKO if it went past 8 rounds but I don't think Lewis would survive the constant onslaught of a peak Mike Tyson long enough.

Tyson had the speed and movement back then to get past that jab and I don't think Lewis' chin would stand up.

Would have been a classic though.

1.Did McCall knock him out though?? There seems to be some debate on that one.
2.Rahman took one mighty swing in the general direction of Lewis's head, and it connected. Lewis was complacent. Let a 250lbs man have a huge swing at your head and ANYONE is going down. That proves nothing except that Lewis was complacent on the night. David Tua and Vitali Klitschko are bigger hitters and better fighters than Rahman - and Lewis stood up to their best and beat them.
3.Is Tyson's chin better? No way. So by the same logic as you're using, you can't rule out an early KO for Lewis.
4.That video shows that Lewis took a good shot consistently in many fights over a long period of time. Bringing up the McCall and Rahman fights shows two isolated incidents separated by quite a bit of time, and ignores the rest of his career.

Which do you think is the more significant/relevant?
