'Indian continent' :blood Though I think you have a good point, I always wonder why India is so **** at sports. I was watching a documentary a while back and apparently they have a big boxing scene over there.
Yeah, whatever. Just finished watching the commonwealth games.Spoilt for choice so many sports to choose from. But BOXing I was keen on watching the most.Loved watching lesser known boxing countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India.India has some handy amateurs going around in the competition maybe just maybe we might see these amateurs go into the pros.
This guy was supposed to be their top prospect. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=74684&cat=boxer
Vijender Singh from India still has a chance to go pro, won a bronze at Beijing and Milan, and could be a big cash cow if Don King wanted to sell Boxing to the Indian masses
they dont stres athlics there. they stress education which is why indians reign dominant in the number of doctors, engineers, computer experts etc. they have extremely highly educated individuals but not too many sports organizations. will be interesting to see if that changes in time
As a man of Indian-American descent, I have to say I have noticed a big upswing in boxing interest in India in the last couple of years. A lot of Indian amateur boxers like Dinesh Kumar, Suranjoy Singh, Mary Kom and Vijender Singh have garnered a lot of attention, especially Vijender who did rather well at the olympics. If you check the BBC page you'll see that a lot of these boxers are actually FAVORED to win their divisions this time around. The last time I was in India i noticed AIBA posters and saw a couple of commercials with boxing in them, which is more exposure to the sport than I had seen previously. India is really just starting to understand the importance of global sporting and international respect. Give them some time, and like China they might develop into a serious global amateur threat. From there, the pro game is only the next logical step. They have the talent pool. They have the hunger necessary for success. What they didn't have before was the exposure, and what they still don't have are the facilities and training. But they're on the way, it seems.
By indian continent I think he's talking about the indian sub-continent which refers to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan & Sri Lanka. Pretty much what Britain ruled in the colonial days. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_subcontinent[/ame]
Indians has a lot of advantage at boxing. They can stretch their arms and legs while standing in one place. Just imagine their reach advantage and footwork. They can distract you easily and put you off game. Just try listening to their accent. You cant clinch them. You should know why. Hahaha not making fun of indians really, my uncle is an indian from goa. But he did said they sux at other sports but they are the best in cricket and football.
