People, the punches that hurt the most are the one you DON'T SEE COMING. In boxing, Toney was always ahead of the game and knew what was coming when and from where. When guys get old and lose their reflexes they get stopped a lot easier because they can't see things coming the way they used to. With Toney and kickboxing, there are going to be all sorts of things coming at him that he's not used to, so it's going to be a lot harder for him to absorb punishment even if the strikes themselves aren't "harder" than the ones he's had in boxing. Truth be told, the "iron chin" crew on this board is a bunch of know nothing dipshits who just want to talk down on fighters and make ****ing stupid "glass jaw lists" that don't mean anything apart from that those who wrote them don't know boxing. The way you take strikes of any kind has a lot more to do with the situation (what shape you're in, if you can see them coming etc) than anything physical to do with your jaw.
Toney was rocked by Batchelder in his last fight Toney is old, fat and out of shape and WAY past any sort of physical prime. titanium chins don't last forever. Toney is in for an embarrassing end to his combat sports career.
im embarrassed for mma but the ufc isnt the be all and end all of the sport! truth is dana's a businessman and he knows it will bring in the numbers...oh the days of yore! all the greats are shot or due to retire! pride is long gone! gsp is hangine em up! the futures bleak.
Dana has said umpteen times he abhorred the sideshow matches that other orgs used to put on. The chickens have come home to roost as he is now willing to sanction virtually anyone that will make the UFC money. He berrated Kimbo when he was at EliteXC but now Kimbo has a contract. He has now signed James Toney an aged boxer who barely has a place in boxing to a multifight contract in the UFC. The sheer danger that Toney will be putting his life in for the sake of "entertainment" isnt even worth thinking about. The UFC is turning a corner. The stars are all waning one by one but Dana still wants to break bread. I wouldnt be surprised and have said this before that the UFC's number may be up. They have saturated MMA completely. Its not exclusive anymore and run of the mill. Any bout with Toney in is the equivalent of those blue collar club shows with those rednecks trying to make a buck. Its disgraceful. I for one will not be watching.
i tend to agree with that post scural, white's a hypocrite, but a rich one! the ufc and TUF are becoming tedious, the fights i.e lidell/ortiz the slice/toney debacles the milking of ageing veterans, anderson and gsp closing down there careers, whites refusal to sign fresh talent and new blood! his dismissal of fedor etc
toney is gunna get embarrassed at some point its inevitable! i really dont get all this 'toney will beat em all standing' ****! wtf! people have obviously never heard of a clinch, muay thai, leg kicks etc i wish these boxing fabs would ****off toney couldnt even outbox sam peter! imagine what a muay thai specialist would do to him! thank god dana doesnt allow elbows!
The most powerful blow a human can deliever is a knee. I can provide proof of this statement but if you do your own research im sure you will find out im right. I dont think Toney will even know what to do if he was in a clinch with anyone in UFC
I just want to see what and now much toney can eat bonewise. If he can eat as many knees and shins as the likes of Rampage and Hunt? I agree with almost everything Wilhelm said apart from being called a dip****. You cannot deny though that Toney has showed that he can just flat out take bombs from much bigger guys and, even without his defence and ability to see shots comeing he's up there with Shane in the chin department. There's nothing wrong with saying that Toney's chin is titanium. Toney is one of the toughest *******s in the history of the sport.
You are right about Kimbo but not necessarily Toney. If Brock got a shot in the UFC (and as much as everyone said he was a sideshow then, he has proven that he deserved the shot) it makes sense for Toney to get one too. He is the best boxer ever to fight in the UFC and he has the boxing credentials to earn a fast track in MMA. If/when he proves to be a worthless fighter and he is still getting matches THEN it will be a sideshow. A multi-weight class world champion martial artist should not be denied his chance to fight MMA. If it were a judo gold medalist or an NCAA champ I doubt it would be considered a freakshow. Let boxing make it's case as a martial art in the cage.
Odd comparison. Brock comes from a sound wrestling background. Considering most of the succesful mixed martial artists in the UFC have been wrestlers, as well as bearing in mind Brocks awesome physical size strength and talent id say his transition into MMA was a given. Toney on the other hand is an OLD OVERWEIGHT middleweight. He acknowledges he is a BOXER and doesnt even want to be a mixed martial artist. So why has Dana allowed him to enter the big leagues to get his ass possibly maimed or killed? How on earth can this be sanctioned? Furthermore it was Dana White himself that said these type of fights were sideshows and he berrated every other organisation for it. Now the UFC has hit a bit of patch his willing to promote anything? Thats a pathetic double standard and a man without a shred of integrity nor any respect for the sport. And boxing doesnt need to make its case in the cage. Thats why its the sport of BOXING. When was the last time you saw a top MMA fighter enter the boxing ranks and even have a modicum of success. :nonoThere two entirely different sports. The sooner fighters and fans realise this the better.
