Dude cmon now you can't be serious. Toney is in just as much danger as any other person who steps into the octagon. MMA is dangerous for anyone, not just old boxers. To state otherwise is ignorant. Would you be crying as much if Remy Bojansky signed with the UFC?
It remains to be seen if Toney is shot or if he shows up in shape. Remy isn't 40 but hes getting up there in age. Maybe not the best comparison, but I wanted to know why Scurla is singling out boxing from other martial arts.
Come on, Toney has been irrelvant in boxing for a good few years now, what makes people think he will be relevant in MMA? He'll get a couple of wins over some journeymen at most. He's simply too old and he is shot.
Bonjansky is an all time great kickboxer who would certainly have more chance in MMA than Toney. There has been a plethora of skilled kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters who have had great success in MMA. Your comparison makes no sense at all.
So if there was a better precedent for boxers in MMA, you'd be more comfortable with Toney's decision?
Precedent? Boxing is an ENTIRELY different sport. Surely even you get that. Plus its PAINFULLY obvious that Toney is WAY past his sell by date.
Kick Boxing and Muay Thai are completely different sports from MMA, yet you have no problem with saying Muay Thai/Kick Boxing practitioners have a better shot at MMA than a boxer? Let's disregard Toney for a minute and think about how stupid your argument sounds.
You're either thick as a brick or incredibly naive. Ever heard of Wanderlai Silva? Tell you what what about Chute Boxe? Melvin Manhoef ring any bells? Mirko Cro Cop may be? Didnt think so.
Cro Cop was a succesful K1 kickboxer before transitioning into MMA. Wanderlei Vale Tudo. Manhoef is a succesful kickboxer. I think the idea is that most of the time a succesful boxer will make a lot more money than a PRO MMA fighter and so maybe the lack of succesful boxing cross overs is financial and not because of the idea that kickboxing is inheritly better suited to mma but because no boxer on the caliber of a cro cop in kickboxing has attempted a transition. Why would they? I think kickboxing is obviously a superior background to have over boxing, let alone how much better it is to have a wrestling background BUT very few of the very best boxers have tried to transition to MMA so he should get a chance. Did anyone think a karate fighter would become light heavyweight champion?
And again, so if their was a better precedent for boxers in MMA, you would be more comfortable with Toney in the UFC?
