Can the UK learn anything from the way the Germans are doing boxing at the moment?

Can the UK learn anything from the way the Germans are doing boxing at the moment?

The Haye v Valuev fight will be on terrestrial TV over there and attract 40% of the TV audience I believe.

It is now possibly a more attractive proposition for boxers to fight over there than in the UK. Wlad and Vit now appear to be honorary residents and it was clear that the best offer for Haye was/is to fight such guys in Germany.

The German shows are very theatrical, with heavy metal musicians, orchestras, holograms... you name it... Vits intro, on his comeback, was great!!

Their fights happen at decent times, not in the early hours of the morning.

Klitschko beat Chagaev in Germany in front of 61,000.

Personally I hope we can get closer - get back to that - over here, rather the carry on down the root of the PPV obsessive American way.

Just a little rant, I'm sure it's full of holes, but I feel the UK (and US) are losing their grip a bit on boxing with the public and dare I say it, well done to the Germans:yikes, as they appear to be putting on some decent shows.

Thinking about it I'm not sure we have enough cheesy Euro trash metal bands to pull it off. :D

I know I'm in a minority but I thought that Klitscho-Peter hologram ring entrance was truely awful, stomach turning.

I can see why you would feel like that, it was a cheese fest, but you just have to accept it for what it is.

I liked it mainly because it was an attempt to do something different. I didn't expect to be seeing Tyson, Holyfield etc popping up...

I feel the live music and theatrics make it seem phoney. Bar Naz I like fighters to come to the ring, in their chosen ringwear and robe/sombrero whatever, to music that starts just before they start the walk and fades out when they get into the ring a minute or so later. Maybe I'm mental but when I'm looking forward to the fight I wanna see them get it on ASAP. Proud as some may be but the national anthems drag and the Yank way of singing their own one after two foreign fighters anthems is f'n nauseating.

I agree in a way about the theatrics, but attracting 40% of the TV audience and having it on terrestrial TV, at a decent time, seems pretty good to me.

It was ****ing cringe worthy, awful

We could learn from them by getting our fights on terrestrial and at decent times, for sure

They could learn from our ring side atmosphere though

Well what did they do for the Froch fight?

They played "It's The final Countdown", an 80s rock travesty, over the PA for an hour and a half or something - is that really any better?

The point isn't your opinion on the Klitschko-Peter ring enterance, its German's have never even produced superstar boxers, yet they are churning out fight after fight infront of huge crowds and getting huge amount of views on telly. Also I think boxing in America will always have its support so they can afford to put it on PPV, in UK we can't, or maybe if they have some huge urge to do so at least build the fan base back up.
