I just looked up the olympic gold medalists in the heavyweight division. Only 1 since 1904 has been over eastern european extraction.

No and the reasons should be obvious. The HW has already fell of in the US and for some of the same reasons has pretty much fell off world wide.

Europe vs USA and you beat us 13 1/2 to 14 1/2. Wow an entire continent against a country and you win by a point. Go look up what the USA vs Britain record was before you ran for help to the rest of Europe.

an entire continent? actually only 9 countries were represented...and they had a combined smaller population than the usa.

nobody plays ''soccer'' in america....more people play it than in england...obviously you are a bigger country, but more people played in 2009 in a competitive game than played in england, so wrong again.

Of course, almost any country in the world with a healty percentage of big men is able to produce such a thing. And with the huge and ever growing population in the US it's merely a matter of time until the next big one arrives.

It's the heart of the current AmeriCAN boxers that bothers me though. And the negative boxing styles based on defence instead of offence, that seems to be favored by US boxers nowadays.

And yet they deliver better HW's

Because it's a given. The US produces great athletes due to a large population, and the means to play sports in general. It's the most powerful, wealthiest country in the world, where excelling in any mainstream sport results in millions of dollars for the athletes. Unlike many countries, sports here is an industry. We just keep churning the greats out.

Golf, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Cycling, Swimming, Track and Field, Boxing, Tennis, MMA, etc etc etc will always have elite American athletes, more so than any country. It's the powerhouse of sports, that's just the way it is...Minus soccer

 

we also owned you at boxing in the last olympics too.

 

Can we not make this a pissing contest between countries? The question is simple.

Will there be a next great American HW? History shows, it's inevitable.

 

history doesnt show that, history shows practically only one nation competing for one reason or another wether it be the mafia, the iron curtain or travelling obviously being a major obstacle 50 years ago
