Can there be any comparisons drawn between Honeyghan v Curry and Khan v Bud?

Are you serious? You really believe Crawford as he is currently would have been rated the no.1 fighter in the world if he was around in 1986?

Bear in mind these fighters would have been considered the best around that time in 1986

    Marvin Hagler
    Don Curry
    Mike Tyson
    Thomas Hearns
    Michael Spinks
    Evander Holyfield
    Mike McCallum
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Edwin Rosario
    Hector Camacho
    Azumah Nelson
    Miguel Lora
    Khaosai Galaxy
    Jung Koo Chang

Now Crawford has beaten all in his career so far but do you really believe that beating the likes of Ricky Burns, Jeff Horn, Jose Benavidez, Victor Postol and Julius Indongo puts him above all those 1986 stars?

Edit: btw, Chavez was still a super Featherweight back in 1986 and a matchup with the current Welterweight Crawford would not have happened.

Hearns was coming off his loss to Marvin, but beat Schuler, Crawford could outdo Tommy`s win over James, it would depend on who Bud had fought at that point. Spinks at heavy was nowhere near Bud`s level P4P, Spinks was much faster at 175, Holmes was finished when he lost to Michael. Holy might have had a better resume than Buds, but you`ve listed a lot of guys Bud would have beaten by `86 depending on his age. I don`t how high McCallum was rated in `86, he was an undderdog v Curry in `87. Chavez would have been the biggest threat to Bud at this stage. Rosario wasn`t as skilled as Bud, Camacho was just quicjk with some good moves but had been exposed by Rosario at this point and was going downhill from there on in. Bud would have outboxed Nelson, he couldn`t cut the ring off on pea 4 years later.

Either way I think he would be a top 5 lock and a consensus top 3... anywhere 1-3 is tough in any era. Not sure he would be 1 but he would have his supporters and perhaps a good claim. Just my $0.02

Now I don’t expect him to lose tonight but if he does we can expect quite the tumble.

Stop nitpicking and trying to dig yourself further in a hole. What the hell are you doing trying to match them in head to head fights? Apart from Curry, none of them are Welterweight like Crawford is so it’s pointless saying he would have beaten any of them in a fight. Those listed were the best P4P fighters at that particular time and I stand by my decision that Crawford at this particular time in his career would not be ranked above them.

I can’t see him losing tonight but anyway I maintain that he wouldn’t be rated anywhere near the top of the 1986 P4P list with those names I mentioned earlier, had he been boxing then.

Now if he goes on to beat Thurman and Spence, I may well be forced to reconsider that.

Honeyghan a.k.a. The Ragamuffin man was a killer whilst Khan is not. Lloyd was a more complete fighter on the inside and outside with the reflexes of a cat. Curry was undisputed Welterweight champion whilst Bud not yet undisputed at Welterweight. No comparison as Honeyghan was dangerous Welterweight and undefeated at the time he fought. Had he been facing someone other than Curry he won’t have been such an underdog.

Crawford is no where near were Curry was Prime vs Prime . And Crawford definitely hasn't faced the number of highly regarded fighters Curry faced before the Honeyghan fight. Benivides, Horn, or Gamboa doesn't equate to Stafford, C.Jones, Starling x2 or Milt McCurry. Plus, Crawford is a small Welter, his physic suggest he's more suited for light/Jr.welt than a full blown welter. Its obvious when one legged Benivides took shot after shot from Crawford without much effect until the later rds. Hell I'd pick Starling or Mccory to beat Crawford, possibly Stafford at welter. The Crawford vs Khan fight isn't close to the talent that was the Curry vs Honeyghan fight in my opinion. Again in my opnion your elevating a fighter to ATG status that hasn't proved he belongs their. As you've done with Lomo multiple times....

lol my bad I misunderstood the question....I think for me he would be behind Loma battling for the 2-7 spots but likely top 5.

It's always easy to overrate a guy who's still fighting and undefeated against a guy whose career trajectory is known and we've seen lose. But if comparing Crawford and Curry prime for prime, Crawford is currently behind Curry. Whether that will always be the case remains to be seen. Crawford needs to unify to prove he's the best 147 pounder in the world like Curry did against McCrory before we know better.

Imagine, Bramble ahead of Spinks, Hearns, Nelson and Chavez. Hindsight sure has reevaluated this ranking. With a little help from Edwin Rosario.
