I honestly can't believe some of these responses.... Yes Tommy had some tools to make life difficult for any fighter than EVER lived. Sure, he could win a decision against both. However, the certainty that you guys are all giving Hearns over May or Pea IMO is laughable.. and a pretty hardy laugh at that. NO FIGHTER that ever lived walks all over Pea.. nobody. May is a step below that level but pretty much the same idea. I personally have PEA (who has more pop than people are giving him credit for) beating Hearns via UD. I have Hearns winning a UD decision against May in a competitive fight.

Over 12 rounds at ww noone came close to taking a decision over tommy. He was far too skilled.

Physically speaking at ww he olds almost every advantage bar punch resistance.

Would anyone in history outpoint him over 12? Not clearly, some might nick a 7-5 but he'll never lose more than 5 rounds imo.

The way to beat tommy is by knockout. A good handful i'd favour to stop him.

    Totally agree.

Neither will knock him out. Both will lose to the hitman.

I agree he has less of a chance than Pea.. but no chance... nah... I will agree that Tommy most likely beats May... cool... But Pea.. I just don't see it.. Regardless, my only point was it's laughable the amount of people that think Hearns has a cake walk with Pea.. and I say again.. no fighter that ever lives has a cake walk with pea and I favor pea against most fighters that ever lived at the same weight he's at prime for prime

You don't think Pea has enough power to put down Tommy? We are talking about Tommy Hearns right?

Yes, Hearns did not have the greatest jaw in the world. He was still only KO'd once at welter, by Ray Leonard, a certified ATG who could crack pretty damn well at welter. For example:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkfsgfVrng4[/ame]

His other KO losses were to powerful middleweights. Hagler had 52 KOs in 62 wins, all at middle, and Barkley was no great fighter but he could hit and throw punches with mean intentions. He did later KO heavyweights.

So you're going to take two small, defensively minded welterweights whose KO power is limited, put them in against a huge, lightning fast welterweight, (who has a 6 inch+ height advantage and a huge reach advantage over both of them) who later KO'd cruiserweights, and you're going to argue that the shorter, defensively minded guys are going to successfully march in on the big guy and KO him?

I suppose you can make the argument, it's just not a good argument.

Oh, and Hearns probably smashes Mayweather, while Pea manages to dodge his way to the end but never manages to get his offense going, so Hearns wins a wide decision.

I don't believe Pea would win by KO and never said so. I disagree with the assertion that Pea couldn't put Hearns on his ass. Even if it wasn't for a 10 count... he could put Tommy down and possible hurt hiim enough for a TKO stoppage. I believe Pea beats Hearns because he is simply a better fighter in an ATG sense and beat better competition. There isn't a fighter or style Pea didn't overcome in his Prime. The same can't be said for Tommy.

    This.

Leonard didn't have stone fists, but his offense where effectiveness was concerned was pretty damn phenomenal. He had Tommy hurt in the 6th, but didn't put him out until the 14th of a marathon. Hearns was only KOed fighting at weights Mayweather and Pea never competed at.

Please, feel free to continue telling us how you never said that Pea could stop Hearns.

I'd agree that Pea rates higher, (although wins over Benitez, Cuevas, Hill, and the decision Hearns should have gotten over Leonard in their second fight are nothing to sneeze at, then there is a stacked list of contenders and titlists that he beat, and even if Duran was too inconsistent to really rate a win over him, blowing Roberto out in the 2nd round is still notable) but you're still talking about Whitaker getting a TKO at Welter, against a guy with a huge size advantage, every physical advantage in the book, with ATG power and good skills.

I think Pea has something like 3 or 4 KOs at welter, and the only notable one was against Hurtado, who wasn't exactly immune to knockouts.

Sorry, but no. Your argument doesn't make sense. If they got into the ring together either Pea would have to be in full defense mode and abandon offense to go the distance, or he'd get dominated.

I'm not sure why I would have to go over basic english words... but appears I need to with you. Do you know what the word "could" means? I never said I think he would.. I simply said he could stop him via TKO. Now are you're going to tell me for a FACT that there is in no way conceivable ever under any circumstances that could happen? I doubt you will because it's not only illogical but a no limits fallacy. Thus, my word choice was spot on. Do I think it's probable to end that way.. No.. I made it very clear how I think it would go.. a decision for Pea.

As I stated... There isn't one style that Pea didn't overcome in his prime and overcome by a LARGE margin. He didn't just win.. he shutout great fighters with ease. That is my contention. If you have a fighter who never really lost in his prime and beat better figthers more convincingly than another guy... why would it be off the wall to assume he has a good chance? That is what boggles my mind here. Take for example Oscar, he fought a more pressure style of fight than Hearns ever showed. He was the bigger fighter.. with longer reach... good power.. good speed.. and threw bombs. Again, he put more pressure and threw more combos than Hearns does. Yet Pea was able to stay in the pocket and get the better of the exchanges (to win a decision imo and in many people's eyes) This was a blown up, past his prime Pea who did that to Oscar. Now, you're going to tell him a Prime Pea has NO chance against Tommy when he's displayed his greatness more times, against better foes than Tommy faced and expect me to not think you're joking? Sorry if you believe that I most certainly do.

    NOBODY outboxed Tommy.

Frightening power, super speed, great brain, ring skills, physical attributes etc.

    Tommy by points at best.

I feel that hearns knocks out both of them but that sweet pea lasts a few rounds longer.
