Can Thomas Hearns win a decision over Mayweather Jr. & Whitaker?

Well Tommy Hearns has to be favored for reasons that have already be mentioned on this thread but I think Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather are being sold short here.

I think the same arguments could have been made prior to Leonard Hearns I.

Hearns was favored and for good reason but SRL had the skillset, speed, power and guile and turned it around.

Mayweather has perhaps one of the best ring IQ's I've seen on film. He can adapt, he can press the action and he had stellar defense. The notion that Floyd has absolutely no chance in this fight is one that I simply cannot agree with especially since time and again Floyd proved his ability against fighters that had seemingly clear advantages over him.

Judah's handspeed was supposed to be a factor. And it was, until Mayweather's timing and patented right hand leads started to get acquainted with Zab's face.

Hatton's aggression, work rate and foot speed was supposed to be a factor and it made Floyd uncomfortable initially until he made some adjustments.

Corrales was supposed to stop Mayweather but the opposite happened.

Hearns is not Hatton, Judah or Corrales but his seemingly clear advantages can be negated.

Look, Floyd if anything can adjust on the fly. It is one of his biggest strengths and while I still favor Hearns, I'm not prepared to throw him an automatic "W" against someone of Floyd's caliber.

Pernell Whitaker is not a guy you outbox. He's hard to hit, he's clever, elusive and has underrated punching power. I don't think there is a fighter that has existed that can shut out Whitaker at 147. He's that good. Again, smart money is on Hearns.

But the key is effective aggression. Hearns may be aggressive and he may press the fight the whole night but I cannot say with certainty that his aggression will be effective. If Whitaker is landing the cleaner more effective punches while on the backfoot it's conceivable that he can pull this one out.

 

What opponents has Floyd faced that have had big advantages on him?

Which multi-faceted operator has he made amusements against? Who has he faced with anywhere near the properties of Hearns?

Ray Leonard and Floyd at the weight have a massive gulf between them.

 

There is no way I can see floyd ever beating hitman.

Pea might over a 4 round fight but he won't make tommy miss over the full distance.

These 2 are mismatches in reality.

 

Floyd could barely deal with the jab of an old DLH, wtf is he going to do with Hearns' jab?

If he has enough balls to try and step in and take it to Hearns (which he wouldn't) he'd get pulverised.

 

Neither would see the bell regardless, and neither would be ahead on points anyway.

 

That was at 154, he was still pretty damn good but not as effective as he would have been at 147 IMO.
