Tua made a half a mil fighting Cameron, a C grade fighter. That's not a bad business decision. Now he gets back in the frame, improves his conditioning, and gets his timing and speed back by fighting Ahunanya, Barrett, and a Barrett look-a-like for Maori TV. Then he's ready for the big time. I'm hoping a straight shot to Klit, or a box off with Peter in a WBO eliminator. What's the problem?
I'm sure Tua couldn't believe his luck when Duco put up that cash. It's like winning the lottery, and taking it is not a business decision. How much business accumen do you need to take half a million dollars when you have bugger all in your bank account. Secondly the problem always has been the dim witted managment of his career and his apathy to achieving any kind of elite level in the sport. The only thing that got him back in shape was not his desire to prove himself or reach his potential, but to get that cash and not look like a joke in the ring against cameron. There is nothing wrong as such with the scenario you outlined above. Other than the fact you just plucked it out of the air, and it is not really any more likely to happen than any other random scenario I can think of. If he wanted to fight Peter he could have done it earlier on in the year and moved up the WBC rankings. He could have been front running for a title shot with Vitali, Wlad, and Haye (or had it already) if he had a bit of hussle organising his fights since the Cameron knock out. So it's basically put up or shut up for Tua, and currently he is not stepping up. He may be dealing to the guys in the ring. But he shouldn't be fighting them in the first place. He is fighting way below his level and it is hardly inspiring.
I think Tua has the potential, and is in a position, to surprise a lot of posters here. A lot of people post **** about him wasting opportunities, being an idiot for his career path etc, but that's irrelevant, the dude is fired up and on a mission. Let's see how he goes from here. Look at the top 10 rankings for the belts; Tua could smash the **** out of the majority of them. Once he gets the Maori contract out of the way he says he's aiming to blitz through some top ranked guys - if he stays true to his word he could wangle a titleshot, maybe more than one if luck is on his side. Gotta remember the dude is a ****ing tank and hasnt taken too much damage in his career due to his chin and him finishing so many of his fights early. He still has some left in the tank.
He's not the same Tua like a decade ago, he's really SLOW compare to 90's Tua so he dont have much adventage anymore against someone like like Vitali , I think David Haye would beat him by wide decision
Chagaev, Chambers, Arreola, Adamek, Valuev, Solis, Peter, Boystov. A lot of these guys he's already beaten, I can't see any beating him but they all have better chances than Tua, who is predictable, one-dimensional and open to being out-boxed.
True, but the fact he's capable of wrecking them all gives him a great chance of earning a title shot. In all likelihood Haye and Wlad would beat him, but with their chins Tua has a chance. Against Vitali, well ... Vitali is old and dropping off a little, if ever someone like Tua were to beat him it'd be now. But then again VK will probably be retired by the time Tua gets a shot at the WBC, depends who holds it then. I've said it countless times before but with the Klitschkos massive torsos, I really do wonder how either of them would react to a full, flush left hook to the ribs or solar plexus.
Tua does not look too slowed down to me Power is still there. Seems hungry. Could be a good last 2 years
BigBopper: Thanks for your comments, but not sure what you meant by me pulling things out of thin air. FACT: Tua beat Friday in his first MTV fight. FACT: Tua fights Barrett for his second MTV fight. FACT: CK and Team Tua want to fight in August against a journeyman (Barrett look-a-like) to finish his final MTV fight. That leaves him still in the #2 position in the WBO. Povetkin is #1, and if he fights and loses to Klit, he goes to the back of the line. If he doesn't fight Klit, he'll eventually lose his ranking. It's been 2 and a half years that he's been #2, and Teddy Atlas says he's still not ready. Peter is ranked #2 in the IBF and #8 in the WBO. Arreola is #3 in the WBO. Tua is #2 in the WBO. No FACTS, but surely Tua faces either Peter or Arreola for the right to face Wlad, who is the champ in both the IBF and WBO. Why didn't he fight Peter earlier? Don't know, but do know that Tua wasn't ready then, and didn't have his #2 ranking. Personally, I think W. Klit, will fight Tua without Tua needing a box off. The Klits are running out of opponents, and with Steward at the helm when LL beat Tua in 2000, I'm sure he thinks the same strategy will work with Klit.
I agree, Diehard One of the Klits must be getting desperate enough for a good marketable fight to try Tua. Too few others out there that they have not already beaten. Tua has to look good to one of these guys soon.
Tua was actually in my buddies gym in illinois doing some light training for the barrett bout( i haved signed gloves from tua to prove it) and my friend who's not even a hard-core said he thought he looked out of shape for a pro fighter. I told him tua's had a long lay-off and is just now making a run at another title. Roger was with david and my friend indicated by the rafter's being shook by tua's heavy bag workout that david hasn't lost that power. He also split an old tear bag with his left hooks.
OK, christo, you're now our spy for Tua. And I believe you, as Tua left last Sunday to go to St. Louis to train with Bloodworth. Out of shape? He looked like he needed to lose about 10-15 pounds when he left NZ. So he was about 250 when he left. He'll easily lose the weight in the next 6 and a half weeks. He's also super nice and friendly, so make yourself known to him. But my question has more to do with who he's sparring. Can you find out for us, christo? Much appreciated.
