Can we be honest about GGG & Chocolatito for a brief second?

This is a spin off from the Fat Dan top 25 P4P list thread I made. The more and more I go through that list and also think about guys who were left off of the list the more disappointed I am with the sport.

Up until recently early 10's give or take. We got all the match ups that should have been happening and also guys weren't scared of stepping up to do the right things for themselves as champions. I will copy and paste my list of guys who didn't make the fat dan list but if you look at that list. ALL of the guys who didn't make it stepped up by either taking a huge fight at their weight class ( a challenge... not a pay day) or moved up in weight to find a challenge ( a good fight... not a pay day).

I say all that to ask when will GGG or Roman Gonzalez step up and take a true challenge. The reality of the GGG situation is he is the best at 160 and better than Canelo. If they ever do fight and he wins it isn't saying much. Canelo is a fun little fighter but he's value vs real 160'ers will be severely dimished. I mean in reality he hasn't even faced a legit 160'er yet. His career (canelo) has been made of 154'ers (Cotto-Kirkland-Lara-Trout-etc). When is GGG going to move up to 168 like the greats before him and make a statement?

I ask the same question of RG. When is he going to step up? A lot of the guys he's beaten that are considered his signature wins are yesterdays laundry. Dudes have been beaten up before and are being spun back around to build up Romans resume. FWIW Boxrec doesn't even have him top 20 fighters today. They have a ratings system that evaluates your resume, not that it's a perfect science but if he's so great how is it that he can't even rank top 20 in their rankings formula.

I'm not trying to bash either guy but I just don't like the trend they are setting. It's fine to like both of them, they are fun fighters to watch and are building their careers along nicely but we as boxing fans have to just be honest with what's happening. Let's not hype a guy JUST CAUSE. Let the fightrs fight their way into greatness. We should accept fighters just being crowned the king without having any crowning achievements to show for it.

Roman Gonzalez has basically fought and beaten everyone there is to fight at Flyweight, what are you talking about?

He's already beaten Estrada, he'd steamroll Ruenroeng, Ioka would put up a fight and I'm a big fan of his, but he'd probably lose. His only real challenge is at Super Flyweight a division higher in Inoue, as far as Cuadras goes, he'd rip through him in a few rounds.

Roman Gonzalez has been fighting very good opposition for a long time. He's already an ATG flyweight.

Crawford is seen as a Top 10 P4P by some moronic lists, but Crawford is not as great as a Juan Francisco Estrada. Official P4P lists today are awful and warped with agenda.

As for Gennady, there's no reason for him to go up and down weight classes, he should just make his name at Middleweight and beat everyone put in front of him. Eventually in the next 3 years of his career, he's bound to face at least one good opponent.

Pretty much this. He started his pro career so late that one could argue that he HAS moved up in weight class already ...
