Discuss... Two iron chin boxers in Pryor and Margo. Two guys hitting very hard (Cotto and Alexis) but not slowing down their oponents.
The comparison does not go much further than those surface comparisons IMO. I'm not saying you think they are identical, no two fights are, but while I loved both fights (Pryor-Arguello is, rather obviously, my favourite fight ever, and Cotto-Margarito was a vintage '08 fight, thriller!), I don't think they were very similar. I viewed the 1st half of Cotto v Margo as a fantastic impersonation of a silky boxer, as Cotto was dazzling fighting in a style different from his own. As the fight wore on, I watched as it rather horribly slid into a beatdown. As Cotto tired due to Margo's relentless cutting off of the ring, he couldn't keep the necessary distance, and his weak defence was being destroyed by the bigger, stronger man. Cotto took a lot of punishment, but the punishment was one way, apart from isolated head shots in the early rounds- which Margo didn't seem to feel at all- Tony wasn't getting hit or hurt much in the 2nd half. Cotto showed remarkable bravery to keep going when he was busted up so badly, but it was a beatdown by the time of the stoppage. Pryor-Arguello was never so one-sided. I can definitely see the comparison between the GRANITE chins of Margarito and Pryor, but the actual fight itself, the dynamics, the pattern and ebb-and-flow, was totally different from Cotto v Margo.
If we are talking about the first AA v Pryor fight then I would say that they are two fights completely different. Arguello was almost at the end of his career and moved up to fight for a four title against a prime Pryor, while Cotto is young and established fighter at 147. Arguello fought 14 rounds and gave everything he had, he was even making a comeback before he was stopped in round 14, while Cotto could not even finish 11. Eventhough both boxers were stopped, Arguello did much better than Cotto. Arguello was losing the fight but he was always competitive and putting presure on Pryor at the point that his corner told Pryor to box and move more, on the other hand Cotto was basically just running and at the end just waiting for his corner to stop the fight.
