''You got all these different MWs right now calling GGG out because they think he's lost a step, three years ago they wasn't mentioning that man's name, they were avoiding him like the Plague.''

    Great post.

While physically many fighters see their best days behind them nowadays post 35. it has been proven that mentally they are still prime well into their late 30's. It's a balance of enough physical ability with wisdom and experience.

I can understand the argument that he isn't much below his peak / prime, and I also understand if you find the words "past prime" too strong.

However what is up for debate should be the degree. There are some who think that GGG is just as good as he ever was, and I offer the statements by Saunders, Froch, Reynoso, Charlo, Monroe Jr, etc. to counter that view.

Yes he was but he had nothing left to prove unlike GGG and he could have retired in the ring after the Pac fight.

    Fully agreed about Floyd.

About GGG, he could retire too, he'd be in the Hall of Fame and be remembered as one of the best MWs. Not on the same level of accomplishment as Floyd, or Pac, for example, but we can't hold GGG to that standard based on some casuals who worship KO power; few are on that level.

It's still a great career considering that at 29 he'd fought nothing but complete garbage and his own promoter was purposely freezing him out. He begged for fights with Pavlik, Sturm, Zbik, Martinez and the other top 160s but they flatly refused him. That's why I'll always have a soft spot for Golovkin.

In answer to the OP, no, we cannot because he is past his prime. He may have had a nice KO of VM but he is definitely past his prime. He stays in great shape but that will only take you so far. He is no longer a young, hungry lion like Charlo.

I thought round 1 was good evidence Golovkin is past his prime.

Vanes is terrible but still had plenty of success in round 1. Even looked like he caused Golovkin to stumble (I have to rewatch that though, might be mistaken).

Explosiveness starts to decline at 25-30. Simple reaction time: 20. Selective reaction time: 30-35.

    Then you have stamina etc.

Every boxer past 35 is past it. Not necissarily "shot".

GGG is obviously past him prime, anyone trying to say otherwise is only looking to use that for their own agenda.

Even tho ggg is past his prime he's still an ELITE fighter that's the best mw in the world.

Fighters careers aren't green, prime and shot. Ggg is still elite and can still beat any mw ever on any given night. That's just proving how out of this world great super great he was during his prime

Not sure what you're laughing about? I hope I'm not wasting myn time with a teenage boy unwilling to be objective.

I have no issues with 7-5 for GGG. I personally had it 7-5 Canelo.

A lot of those rounds were close. If you give Canelo JUST a SINGLE round you gave GGG, then you get 6-6 Canelo. That's why is almost futile arguing against 7-5 either way or 6-6. I felt the fighter with the stronger cleaner punches deserved the win, just like you and many other felt the fighter who landed more jabs and came forward won the fight.

I don't base my opinions on what others see or say they see when I'm capable of seeing the same things.

BJS- So you agree with Saunders that GGG is "old" and "past prime"? Do you also agree with everything he has said in the past? Or could it be Saunders is just being BJ and hypeboling? Or maybe he's stating the obvious, GGG is 36, at one time being a 36 year old boxer was considered old, not so much now with many elited fighting well into their late thirties. ALSO, GGG started fighting pro at 24, not 15 like Pacquiao or Canelo, not 18 like Mayweather, not 19 like Oscar De La Hoya, but 24, and unlike the fighters mentioned, he didn't really start fighting against the elite or top world class until just last year, so not much wear and tear imo.

Reynoso- He isn't incorrect, GGG is a mature fighter, established, and peaked, he isn't in a stage of his life where he is developing and learning new things, he is already as refined as he will get, has tons of experience and will use what he's already learn in his fight game. It doesn't mean he is SHOT, or PAST PRIME.

Charlo, Monroe, Froch can all have their opinions, that's fine and dandy, and I have mine.

I'm basing my opinion on tangible envidence:

-His age when he became pro
-The level of opposition he's fought
-The amount of rounds he's fought
-How he looks against B level opposition

Here is an interesting FACT; Here are the amount of rounds the mentioned fighters have fought:

    GGG- 186 rounds
    Canelo- 365 rounds
    Floyd- 397 rounds
    Pacquiao-455 rounds
    De La Hoya- 308 rounds

That is very telling, especially when you consider that the quality of opposition those fighters have fought towers over GGG's level of opposition.
