money, mma, greedy promoters and dodgy fights all contributed to the supposed decline in the sport, but i sense an optimism and a renewed interest/popularity within the sport (thanks to fighters like hatton) that has sadly been lacking of late...

boxing is once again beginning to flourish, not just stateside but on a global scale, and long may it continue.

It never went anywhere, the "boxing is dying" stuff was just a myth.

Not untill the promoters grow a brain and start puting bigger matches on CBS and all those channels, Klitschko/Gomez on ESPN was a step in the right direction but they have not followed up on that. Pacquiao/Hatton is going to be a huge match, but what if it was on CBS? Not Boxing becomes mainstream again can we really say its "back".

It seems to be doing pretty well in most places, although it still seems slightly depressed in the US. The US needs some decent heavies!

Yeah lots of great fighters and great fights. The real test now is to get the heavyweight division going and thankfully David Haye is attempting just that.

For us the boxing fans it is back, but it has always been that way. When boxing went to PPV for every fight and went out of mainstream TV, it has left the mainstream sports behind a little.

I got Sky and Setanta at the start of the year and my interest in Boxing went massively up. I have always been a fan but it's difficult to follow without them channels really.

    Back...as what...a mainstream sport?

No, it's not. But who cares.

It's doing well as a niche sport, and there are plenty of great fights to entertain proper fans.

Boxing needs Floyd to come out of retirement and have a couple marquis fights over the next year

what's really changed?....nothing in America at least, we got some great fights this year, alot of boxers who are doing there part in keeping the sport exciting for the fans, but then again, we got some people still cherrypicking there way around the sport as well

oh yeah, and DLH's retired....so thats gotta help things, he should be using his promotional powers for good and not evil, Allah bless Pacman for knockin him into retirement

Pac/Hatton on CBS? Even MMA's huge events are on PPV, I dont think you need a mega fight on CBS to say it mainstream again. Maybe something like a Taylor/Froch fight on CBS...

When a FOTY contender has tons of empty seats available (Froch/Taylor), I'd say yer jumpin the gun a tad. First and foremost boxing isn't "dying", it's just falling behind MMA in terms of economics.

Boxing will always have great BIG fights. One fight that draws 800k+ and such...the question is consistency. If boxing shows some consistency, we're in good shape. Basically the key depends on how well the other fights start doing.
