I think it is picking up a bit. Only recently where other co-workers start talking about boxing. Before I talk to myself when I want to talk boxing.
hell yeah its back.this year is a big year for boxing already.but putting on fights like tarver dawson 2,and making a fight like trinidad hopkins 2 is what kills the sport
I don't think Floyd is the key for boxing coming back. If boxing is back as the thread implies, then it came back without Floyd and not with him. That is significant. So fights are being made after he retires? That says something about Floyd and his opposition.
The only dip in boxing's popularity amongst the general poulation is that there isn't a dominating figure to show for it, and I mean that in the sense of no heavyweight that transcends the sport. I'm talking about Holyfield,Tyson or Lewis. After that it was people who's names we can hardly spell or pronounce. The heavyweight Championship is the blue riband of the sport, the 100m of the Olympics, and if that leaves the public eye, so does that sport of boxing. For the true fans, it has never gone away but it really needs a great heavyweight division and champion to get the public excited about it as well.
You must be a Mayweather or Marquez Hater. Even though JMM/PBF smells of cherrypicking on Mayweather's part there's a lot of intrigue in that fight.
I know many of you will disagree, but this is just my opinion... The pacquiao delaHoya fight drew alot of attention... I agree, it was over hyped especially with the fight results... but people were like Wow! It can happen, a small guy from the boondocks( Manny Pacquiao) After this fight, the name of Manny Pacquiao was being searched the most on web search engines. Like who is this guy who just beat a legend in such a dominating fashion? To this day... people wanna follow Pacquiao, Filipinos Americans, Mexicans, British etc... etc. even celebrioties are getting into it. For example, the whole Boston Celtics team is a Pacquiao fan, Mark Wahlberg is often seen visiting the Wildcard gym while Pac is in training. Many of these new fans are not necessarily boxing fans, but the emergence of Manny Pacquiao made them at least somewhat follow boxing. SOme of them are now also starting to follow boxers other than Pacman. If you look at any boxing websites these days, it's hard to find one without an article on him. People write about him simply because people wanna read about him. I say boxing is somewhat back, but honestly, not back enough to where it should be, we need more boxers like him, that can attract attention worldwide. Definitely yes, we need one from the US of A.
