I've never said he was a threat to Ward, but although he lost to Froch he beat both Miranda and Bika much easier than Ward did, also Bute would have posed Ward some problems that he'd never before encountered.

Having said that I'm no fan of Bute but I see that he was/is a good fighter....not a bum which you called him.

I don't think he's a bum neither but while everyone was fighting in the Super 6 against each other, Bute was fighting leftovers. There was so much unjustified hype around him.

I cannot take the opinion of someone that uses "Flamos and "Wardos" to describe a particular fanbase seriously.

At 36 years old Bute gave competitive matches to the top gun of the division (Jack and Degale). Bute was winning the fight before he got tagged against Alvarez, who is the first contender to the WBC belt at 175. Bute had 13 title fights, not one or two, 13. Froch ruined him for years. Bute performed better against Bika and Glen Johnson than Ward (and arguably Calzaghe) and Froch did (I know triangulation theory doesn't work). Bika became champion after. Ward ducked Bute (which was confident to win against Froch in England to get to Ward) while Bute had beaten some of the toughest guys in the S6 except Froch, Kessler and Ward. Respect where respect is due.

There is definitely nothing left for him in the ring. The run is over. Alvarez was his last chance.

Long disliked and doubted Bute when he was at his peak. I've always felt him overrated. I did at the time but with retrospect even more so, I can acknowledge him as a very solid titlist and contender for many years. Time moves on.

Pulled up his boxrec just now cause I'm thinking... "who has he beaten since the Froch fight???" Here is what he's been up to in recent years. Di Luisa was actually the only guy I couldn't remember. Still just crazy to look at it as far as how crushed big Bute fans must be about him, so I'll type it up. Credit to him, he wasn't afraid to fight quality guys on the way out. About to turn a fresh 37 years old with bad results (in ring and in testing), time to call it quits for Bute. But he will always be talked about when discussing the Super Six era of the 168 pound division and he deserves that.
    2012- L Froch
    2012- W Grachev
    2014- L Pascal
    2015- W Di Luisa
    2015- L DeGale
    2016- D Jack
    2017- L Alvarez

    Watched a replay.
Bute was actually moving fairly well, and had some moments.
Alvarez is a legit top 5 type LHW at the moment
