Garcia had stage first against Morrales and paid him too much respect. He annihilated a doped up Morales in the rematch. Prime Eric was too small to any version of Garcia. Btw , Morales v Garcia I is an underrated classic imo.
Going off-topic here, but had to say that for being fat and shot, Morales' comeback produced a lot of entertaining fights. The one versus Maidana was pretty great too.
Oh please! Everything up to Matthysse(him included) was a fantastic run. But it was all downhill after that. They wanted an easy fight to build Garcia in Puerto Rico. That backfired and he got a BS gift decision. Then the Salka execution happened... SHO should still be embarrassed after that. Next up was Peterson in another controversial decision. Decent fight tho. And what happens next? They drag Paulie out of retirement! Guerrero and Thurman were good fights but in-between he had tuneups vs some nobody and shot to bits Rios.
The only people referring to him as Cherry as people who hate him NOT because of his opponents, but because of other factors that I will not get into at this moment in time.
A prime El terrible wouldn't be too great vs DSG. Talking a solid very heavy hitting large 140 vs prime 126/130 morales. And I love morales, just too small in his prime for dsg
Never really liked the seemingly intense and seething bad sentiment towards the guy. I know his dad's a *****, but since when does that define someone else? It's an extension of the modern boxing fan really, the hate.
This "cherry" nickname wasn't given because of his recent fights, he's been fighting tough fights recently without a doubt and doesn't deserve this moniker anymore, he gained this nickname in between Matthysse and Thurman fights. He fought Salka, Herrera, Peterson, Malignaggi, Guerrero, Vargas. That's where "cherry" comes from because he was to be seen as one of the p4p elite guys but he's fighting lower quality guys in comparison to what's available. Salka fight - I don't need to say anything about that. Herrera - Meant to be easy pickings, actually very clearly got out-boxed, Herrera gets robbed still. Way to earn fans, by robbing guys that were brought in for an easy W. Peterson - Another robbery, albeit a more closer one that can be argued for. Anyways, it's a totally legit fight, I have nothing against it personally. Other than that Garcia angered more fans by getting a decision that he didn't deserve. Malignaggi - Over the hill guy with no power, can box a little but really poses no danger at all. This is the epitome of low risk, high reward fight. Cherry pick. Guerrero - I know some people rate this guy, I personally don't and never have. Very basic, average, C level boxer. Only thing he's really got going for him is his chin and heart. Not really a cherry pick but it's another lower-risk and high reward type of fight. Vargas - Never even heard of this guy, checked his BoxRec, looks like a cherry pick.
Sometimes it's necessary, there's too many things to get into His dad His questionable MV's The fact that he has a barber shop beside his boxing gym. Etc I just didn't have time to go through all of em. Nothing race related though !
