Can we straight up say Usyk is the 2nd greatest Cruiserweight?

Can you imagine Usyk-Valuev is Usyk was 10 years older and about eight pounds lighter than he is now? Because that's how old Evander was when he faced Valuev.

Everyone is better until they lose. Then everyone reevaluates.

If Usyk would be allowed to juice himself up to the level holyfield was he’d run through anybody holyfield faced including holy himself.
He is a superior boxer to holyfied with higher boxing iq , better footwork and better upper body movement. Anyway we are talking about some of the greatest boxing talents ever.
But there are hype jobs for example like deontay wilder who failed his first test, he was a total and absolute tomato can crusher who fought bums and has beens until they found broken fury and thought fury was done and he was at that time, but fury who isn’t anything special himself was still able to beat wilder when he was prob at his 60%.

Usyk is a better cruiser than Evander that doesn’t mean he would beat Evander. I rate him higher because he won all 4 belts on the road. And his cruiser resume has better depth. However Evander beat probably the best fighter in Quawi and clearly had the most exciting grueling fight in Quawi 1. It’s a close comparison. The two of them are clearly over rest of the division.

Holyfield beat a Hall of Famer (Qawi) to win the cruiserweight title. And he beat four Hall of Famers at heavyweight (Bowe, Tyson, Foreman, Holmes). Even Michael Moorer is on the ballot.

Usyk hasn't beaten any Hall of Famers in either division.

After he beat Tyson, Ring named Holyfield the third best heavyweight of all time, after Ali and Louis.

After Roy Jones beat John Ruiz, people argued whether Roy Jones or Ray Robinson should be considered the greatest pound-for-pound fighter ever.

Losing tends to bring people back to sanity. When Usyk loses to Fury, people will reevaluate.

I was more directed towards people who compare Haye and Usyk. But yeah, 10 years older Usyk probably still schools Valuev.

We'll see how Usyk looks in 10 years. He may not look so good after his next fight.

There's a difference between Usyk losing to Fury and Jones getting chinned by somebody his own size. Nobody is going to reevaluate Usyks CW status because he lost to Fury.

Usyk won't plummet. But people always reevaluate boxers after they lose. Bob Foster losing at heavyweight didn't help his standing as a light heavyweight when light heavyweights have moved up and been more successful than he was.

And, like I said, they push the cruiserweight limit back down to 190, they'll be an asterisk by Usyk's name ... because he likely never would've been a cruiserweight if he had to fight at 189, like Evander. He never came close to fighting at that weight as a pro.

Just like if they moved the welterweight limit up to 157 for a couple decades and dropped it back to 147 again ... people may look at the guys who held the title when the limit was 157 a little differently than the guys who held it at 147.

How differently would Usyk's career be viewed if he was never the cruiserweight champ (because the weight limit was 190) and he had fought at heavyweight the whole time and just now won a title?

Nobody would be saying he's the best ever at anything.

Having that division limit bumped up to 200 really helped Usyk out.

I don't know if it helped or not. Look at who Usyk beat at CW. Briedis, who I regard as his best win, fought at HW with success, Hunter moved up and had success, Gassiev moved up and he's very young so you know he was just as big if not bigger than Usyk. Huck fought at HW but he was on the slide anyway so that doesn't change. Glowacki was an average champ and could have made 190.

I don't see it making much of a difference.

Well, for one thing, Usyk wouldn't be up for discussion as the best cruiserweight ever if he never fought in the division because the weight limit was 190.

So he'd go from recognized for beating four champions at cruiserweight to beating nobody who won anything at heavyweight except Anthony Joshua.

Because, last I checked, Hunter and Brieidis and Gassiev and Glowacki haven't won anything at heavyweight. (Unless you count Panasian Boxing Parliament belts).
