Can Wlad Break Louiss Record Of 25 Title Defences? Manny Steward says he can!!!

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Foreman Hook, Mar 16, 2012.

  1. Only difference is,Joe Louis defended the LINEAL championship 25 times.
Wlad has only defended the title that makes him THE HW champ 4 times! He had those shitty alphabet soup titles for a long time but God knows they barely mean anything. The Ring title/Lineal titles matter.
Wlad has 21 title defenses to go until he matches Joe Louis.

Domination over (by your own admission) a less-than-stellar era doesn't warrant #1 ATG status when Muhammad Ali's resume far exceeds Joe's. Style? Textbook, yes, but he had his faults despite his great technique. Role model for kids? Get the **** out of here. Has NOTHING to do with determining greatness. Absolutely nothing. If that were the case, Robinson wouldn't be anywhere near a top 100 list, and Carlos Monzon would be well outside of the top 100.

You have a highly flawed rating system, but to each their own I guess.

There isn't much left in the HW division, so yeah, a possibility...

I consider the record to be 25 consecutive defenses, which would prove a bit ambitious, considering during Wlad's title reign he defends his title every 7-8 months and weird injuries can happen along with any myriad of medical issues (kidney stones).

He is currently on 11 consecutive and I see no reason why another 9-10 is not possible.

With the competition today???? Of course.... but if he gets injured or becomes inactive, it might easily become a different story... I don't think he gets the record

Nah, I don't think he will. Every Wlad Klit fight is now a spectacle that requires massive planning well in advance of the actual event, so the number of times he can fight per year is relatively few. If he decides to slum it a bit in America and notch up a few easy wins he could break the record, but I doubt he'd be willing to go down that route.

    You can't be this stupid.

Is it Wlad's problem that they split the title into 4's? No.

Do we not count Larry Holmes's title defenses since he didn't unify? Of course we do.

Wlad has 16 title defenses and it is being recorded as such. I can see where you might have a problem with the WBO defenses because Lennox was considered "the man" not only because he beat Evander, but because he had the majority of belts.

Wladdy is more of a World Champ then Holmes ever was. :deal

Holmes only ever held 1 abc belt at a time, WBC, then stripped for fighting Marvis Frazier, then IBF invented a new belt And gave it to Larry.

Surley Joe Louis should get more defenses for when he was the no 2 and no 1 contender in the division then !!

You cannot be one of 3 or 4 men running around with a title and compare that to Louis it is not accurate !!

As for counting defenses that is all fine and nice and we cant really get into splitting it up all the time it just causes a mess

    however

when we are making one direct comparison to one guy in this case Joe Louis then we must

    Lets be very clear here

Louis had 25 defenses as the one and only champion clearly recognised in the HWs

No one is coming close to that

  14. No the title is not split up. The lineal championship always was. Holmes was still the lineal titlist when he was IBF champ because he wasn't beaten in the ring. He lost it to Spinks-Tyson-Douglas-Holyfield-Bowe-Holyfield-Moorer-Foreman-Briggs-Lewis-Rahman-Lewis-Vitali- and then Wlad got it with the win over Chagaev. Wlad hasnt been the lineal champ for that long.

  15. those alpahbet title mean nothing. Holmes was the lineal champion which made him the champion with or without the WBC or WBA etc
Wlad is the lineal champ since his won over Chagaev.
