Can Wlad Klitschko beat a lot of old school greats?

    I think he can frankly.

At 6'6", 240 Lbs, and with a great left jab, along with tremendous power, he might have beaten Louis, Marciano, Dempsey, Johnson, Jeffries, Walcott, Charles, Patterson and a few others.

He was of course, beaten by Sanders, Purity, and Brewster but these guys were big heavyweights with great left hooks. I don't know if Marciano would have had the ability to withstand Wlad, given his struggles with much smaller and older fighters. Wlad is not as great as Holmes, Tyson, Lewis or Holyfield, but he has my vote against many fighters before that period.

I wouldn't like his chances against punchers like for instance Marciano and Louis.

But those who lack the power are in deep, deep trouble. Guys like Tunney, Johnson, Jeffries i would give little to no chance against him under modern rules.
Walcott has a better chance because of his footwork and power, but he lacks aggression and pressure that he'd need... i don't like Charles' chances either, dito with Schmeling who'd be overpowered as would Carnera and Sharkey (lack of power themselfes). Holmes would have his hands full with Wlad just like Ali although they have great boxing ability and fighters instinct to make up.

I seriously would give him a huge chance against most of the past greats, the wlad of now that is,hes huge, powerful and dangerous,he would probaly lose a few,ali id say would find a way to tire and beat him,but agaisnt every other heavyweight id say he would or could win

Agree. The big old time punchers could beat him, but most could not.

He beats all except Ali (great stamina, footwork, and chin) and Lennox (comparable size and skills).

Everyone else would be eventually overwhelmed by the combination of his size, skills, power, and ring generalship.

Not looking for a huge debate here,
but I seriously don't know if those guys would fair well against him. Louis was either troubled or beaten by white fighters who were far smaller, and on occasion less skilled than Klitschko. If Wlad floored him the way that Schmeling, Galento, Braddock, or Baer did, I think he'd have a pretty good chance of finishing him. A similar argument could be made for Marciano who was even smaller than Louis. If Wlad fought Rocky, he'd likely be the youngest, biggest, strongest and one of the more skilled fighters he faced. We'd also be looking at an 8 or 9 inch height advantage, and maybe 50 Lbs of weight, which contrary to most old school buff's opinions would be muscle, and not extra baggage. Wlad has a questionable chin, but I don't know if Marciano and Louis would have the reach or style to land early enough, or the needed ability to make it out of the early rounds for that matter.

well, you can't say that the Brewster loss was some fluke. Or that he was poisoned or that it just meant nothing. Brewster I showed that a busy, sturdy chined guy with with a high work rate and an agressive style could do well.

Brewster is 6'2. trained down I would put him at around 210. And it was no lucky punch, Brewster wore him down/Wlad punched himself out.

The key thing is that Wlad is a better fighter now. But the swarmers who would be in the Brewster mold of years past would be better skillswise than he was.

I don't think you can look at Foreman v. Frazier and assume that Frazier would be knocked around the ring. I don't think you can assume that Tyson would have problems either. Especially prime Tyson who was harder to hit and had more dimensions than Frazier, let alone Brewster. Marciano is a tougher call, due to sure size, but a modern Marciano would be a little lighter than Brewster and his crouch would make the jab tougher to land. Inside the range of Wlad its Marciano who has the advantage and short compact punches to the body could do well and combined with fatigue, trouble Wlad in the later rounds. First right hand that Wlad lands, and if Marciano is standing, we know that we have a fight. Ditto Frazier.

Wlad has a punchers chance vs anyone, but smaller, busy fighters working him on the inside have a shot.

Ibragimov might do well because he might be content to box even though he can pressure and work the body (which is what I would expect Dempsey to do). Povetkin might do well with a combination of power, speed and accuracy (which is what Louis would do). Chagaev might also be able to do the trick and if he can than I wouldn't rule out Jeffries at all.

Let's see how Wlad does (and at 31-32 and a puncher I don't think you can say that he's past peak) against those three and if he beats the best of his era, I will certainly give him more of a solid chance against the fighters of years gone by.

if 37 year old B level flabby corrie sanders could knock him dead in 2 easy rounds, imagine what a joe louis, sonny liston, dempsey, marciano would do to him?

Wlad has a lot of potential and he is one of the most dangerous HW contenders of his time, but he has yet to prove himself great let alone that he could handle the pressure of fighting great fighters. He has been exposed 3 times in 3 different areas(chin vs sanders, heart vs purrity, and stamina vs brewster).....losing to 3 very average fighters like that proves he would defintley be beatable by alot of the big punchers or strong durable stamina . He is doing well, but he has yet to prove himself the linear champ and has yet to unify a belt and has yet to clean out the HW division. even in one of his more recent fights(peters.....) he was nearly knocked out and floored 3 times.

Wlad has alot to prove before we spend him in the ring vs punchers like marcaino dempsey liston louis frazier tyson or before we send him in againsgt master boxers like ali holmes patterson, walcott etc

Wladimir's height, reach, athleticism, strength, skills, punching ability, and power would give anybody a tough fight. Could he beat some of the old school greats? Without question...

Ali, Foreman, Liston, Dempsey, Holmes, Lewis and Louis would probably beat him. I'd pick him over Johnson, Tunney, Schmeling and a few others. I can't quite decide with Marciano or Jeffries. They'd both have a punchers chance, at least.
