Yes, but Marciano's record is a lot better than Dempsey.
Marciano knocked out every rated man he faced! No one else in history, every weight class, can make that claim. Marciano fought everybody. As a champion he fought the #1 contender 5 times and the #2 contender was his worst opponent. This is uncomparable to sitting on your title for 3 years, defending it only 6 times in 7 years while ducking the most deserving challenger for 9 years, not to mention the controversial ending of Firpo without rematch.

if u know anything about racism vs black people in America, then u would understand why Wills never fought for the title. I suggest you read a little bit of history and get ur maths straight. It is seven years and failing to meet is not the same as ducking, as u make it sound. There is plenty of evidence (newspaper accounts, picture and contract) that Dempsey wanted to fight Wills but the racism and promters prevented it, and this was by Harrys own admission. Marciano and others were lucky not to fight in an era where they simply weren't allowed to fight coloured fighters for the title. There fore conclusion is 7 years instead of your exxagerated 9 years to make Dempsey seem worse. And no once again anyone who can study the evidence knows that what really prevented the fight. Plus Jack Johnsons out of the ring behaviour caused more problems for black heavyweights.

who told u Fripo wanted a rematch? He lost interest after losing a newspaper decision to Wills. It was not illegal according to the rules of the day to be pushed back in the ring.

That's funny because Dempsey was booed and "gave boxing a black eye" when he escaped out of the ring when faced with a black opponent. Apparantly they wanted to see the fight. Carpentier had no problem getting a fight with Jeannette. Burns fought Johnson.
The "color line" was a very convenient excuse not to fight the better, black fighters around.

You're telling me Firpo did NOT want to fight for the heavyweight championship? Come on, that's really stretching it. Boxing "bums" like Evangelista had no problem fighting for the title even if they sucked. Same with Wepner, Roper and many many others. This is just another pathetic Dempsey-excuse. Firpo should've won the fight by DQ but thanked for a rematch and would rather fight nobodies for a few pennies? Don't kid yourself. No one says "no" to a title shot. Ask Rademacher. A titleshot is the most precious thing in the boxing world, the ultimate goal to achieve.

i talked with marcianos brother personally, and he told me rocky naturally weighed well over 200lb during his title reign and that it took a large amount of heavy training, long roadwork and watching his diet just to get his weight under 190. Peter Marciano told me later in rockys reign rocky would complain to him how hard it was to get his weight under 190lb.

Rocky was big boned, he could carry the extra weight well.

I thought Dempsey held the weights in his gloves?

Marciano took diuretics to make himself lighter for a fight...

    Sure,

Its ok for Dempsey to lose to a piece of **** like Meehan, but not ok for Marciano to get decked by the sport's all time knockout king, who by the way he beat handedly while Dempsey got spanked or drew with Meehan.

Greg Dempsey has shown us pure idiocy at its finest folks

Foolish hypocracy coming from a foolish man.

You make critiscisms about Marciano over Dempsey based on the Rock's film footage, yet make excuses for Dempsey when there is no such footage available.
