Can you become an ATG with weak hands?

It never looked better than when it poleaxed Duran. Not hate for Roberto, just speaking in terms of the quality of that right hand. That one is indelibly burnt into the memory - not so much Roberto’s though - aside from him seeing the replay - LOL!

 

Tommy Loughran I believe was quoted as saying something along the lines that he only had one chance to line you up with his right hand after that it was not of much use

 

Jake LaMotta had very frail hands and delivered most punches to the body.

Fenech was the first I thought of with this issue. A couple more I thought of would not be considered ATG but good pros whose bad hands were always an issue. One was Paul Pender, who did win the middleweight title, but went through hell on the way up with multiple breaks along the way. The other was heavyweight Bob Baker who started his career as a KO artist and was actually regarded as a fighter who hit like 'a young Joe Louis'. However, his hands began to swell something fierce just from gym work and he had to curtail the snap in his shots. But he made up for babying his punches by firing some really nice combos and by using his natural heft in his shots rather than any form of a real punch again.
