No, not choke in the MMA sense of the word, Choke as in the lose your bottle sense of the word There are plenty of examples of huge chokes in sports history. Jana Novotna's choke against Steffi Graf comes to mind. Choking usually happens in sports where you have time to think about what is going on and what is on the line, you are in a winning position and lose from choking Serving at match point for a Grand Slam title a Free throw in the NBA finals for the title a shot at the 9ball in Pool in the World champs A 4 foot putt in a Grand Slam tournament in Golf A penalty to win the World Cup in soccer So the question is, can you choke in Boxing ? Boxing is a continuous physical and reactive sport, at no point in time do you have say 20 seconds to think about throwing a particular punch and know if you land the punch, you win the fight. Doesn't work like that I think you can underperform from pressure in boxing, but not sure you can choke what do you think ? If you think you can choke in Boxing, please give some examples
I think Oscar de la Hoya against Felix Trinidad might be an example of choking. Oscar was in position to win the fight. He'd been clearly winning. He had time to think about what he was doing and decided that he would take his foot off the accelerator and let the bout slip through his hands by not fighting in the last 2-3 rounds. Nate Campbell choked against Robbie Peden. He stuck his chin out and got it checked and made to look foolish in the process.
No, DLH corner stupidly told him to get his track shoes on as they feared he would be caught with tito's left hook late on. He did not choke. As for Campbell his was a moment of foolishness or show boating gone wrong. I think the author of this thread means choke in the sense the fighter freezes on the big stage due to the amount of mental pressure. Prime example would be Audley Harrison (every time he fights), he has a weak mental make up. Others would be Gatti vs Mayweather, he froze in a way never before.
Hm. Okay then. Well, perhaps Spinks against Tyson, then. Spinks was supposed to be the best heavyweight around and, in some circles, was actually favored to defeat the young Kid Dynamite. As soon as Spinks walked towards the ring you could see the fear in his eyes. He couldn't even make eye contact with Tyson across the ring. He collapsed mentally, choking on the big stage. Here's a trip down memory lane, check out this article from 1988 that predicts Spinks will 'be the new undisputed heavyweight champion' not only that but 'possibly by late-round KO'. It seems hilarious now, but at the time, it seemed to be a very realistic prediction. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpa...4A15755C0A96E948260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all
I think Gatti simply was outclassed rather than choked. Of course, McGirt's gameplan to work behind a double jab didn't help either.
He was scared of Mayweather, from the moment he jumped at his fire works ring entrance to standing in range not letting his hands go, to not defending himself at all times. Most recently Sam peter vs Vitali Klitschko
If he was scared of Mayweather he wouldn't have fought him. There is no way he was scared of him.He was just beaten. And indeed he got scared of the fireworks because it exploded in his back and he wasn't expecting it.
Mayweather **** talk absolutely got to him, can not ever remember a time when Gatti was just simply out classed. Even against DLH he was outclased but at least threw back and landed. He was definately scared for some unknown reason.
Witter vs Judah Witter vs Bradley Woods vs Tarver Khan vs Prescott Arthur vs Cook Klitschko vs Byrd - more of a quit really Pavlik vs Hopkins Taylor vs Pavlik II
