After a hard lifting session I usually have a protein shake and then relax, but I was wondering if I could maybe go for a few miles run to burn extra calories, but I am unsure if that might damage my recovery or not? (I am trying to cut weight by the way)

Do HIIT if you can manage it.

I always do my cardio work first. This gets the body warmed up and the muscles ready to pump iron.

Really? I know I can do it no problem, I just read it can be harmful to do it directly after a lifting session.

I shadow box for 3-4 round and then do some dynamic stretches-I always heard it wasn't a good idea to deplete glycogen stores before weight lifting, which I think the cardio would tap into if it isn't already used.

Your probably right, Im no expert. I just remember that in my high school gym class, my coach always made us run before pumping iron. I've done that ever since.

It would be good for burning extra calories, but I still want to get protein and carbs down me asap after heavy lifting so I'd do my cardio a bit later if I havn't done it earlier, but not right before.

I tried that yesterday, downed a quick protein shake, let it sit for about 15-20min then went out to run.

honestly i wouldn't. it's ok to warm up before lifting. but i wouldn't do it within a few hours of either. it is easily possible for u to lose the muscle u just tried gaining from lifting while running.

Although I am trying to lose weight, so I do not expect to gain any muscle anyway.

I just did a heavy session, and then some HIIT. Works brilliantly. I do various jumps in between lifts as well. I'm getting a lot more explosive.

You read this where? HIIT training after weightlifting can help build muscle.

It's typically best to do your strength workout followed by your cardio.

My personal approach is to super set my workouts with body weight exercises between sets. This will elevate your heart rate significantly.

For example, today I did legs/back. Between each leg exercise (squats, press, dead lift, calf raises), I either did 10 deep knee bends, 10 lunges (each side), or 10 standing calf raises. If it wasn't a leg day, I would also run for 3-5 miles afterward.
