Understand when I say long distance running doesnt do anything, it doesnt mean one should NEVER run. If you are a runner or like to run, by all means do it. Just understand that its not really helping your sports performance. Its a neutral activity. Its useful for maintaining a level of aerobic conditioning, but its only very marginally going to increase your performance conditioning, if at all. You would be better off sprinting 2-3x weekly for 20 minutes at a time. Or pulling a sled, pushing a car, etc etc
HIIT has shown to be much more effective for weight loss and conditioning than running, but if I recall correctly you do have to supplement it with another cardio workout of a longer time span (like running or biking) because HIIT and explosive training alone produces lactic acid too fast and you'll wear out.
I have to agree with this point of view, because once you run for the first time of your life long distance. You realize that the human body is not made for running. There's many better training for the cardio less harder than running is for the body. Running is extremely hard for the body.
I know what you mean. I hate running. I used to get up at 4AM everyday as a young amateur to run 5 miles thinking it was the best way to condition my cardio.
myself too I used to run the 6 miles in less of 45 minutes. Now I have knees issues, legs, ankles and was still very far from the best lol!
Have you considered swimming? Its excellent for long endurance and zero impact on joints. Good for joint mobility as well Only problem is needing to be by a body of water
I would invest in a sled and pull it on grass for intervals of time Sled pulling is an eccentricless activity and is a fantastic conditioning tool that wont tear up the body like hard running It will also strengthen your posterior chain and increase your punching power
Ya kinda fast for me, the faster I would get if I would kept running, would be around 42/43 minutes I think. More than that, my body would probably turn in fire if I would kept that pace lol. The best machine for the body for the cardio without hurting your articulations/joints is this from what I heard this below... http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=...ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:17,s:25&biw=1280&bih=779
Even pro runners don't "just run 12 miles a day" Not only are you more prone to injury/pain issues, it doesnt benefit as much as altered running programs, its just like any workout. You have to run at different distances/paces or you wont reap the proper benefits/% of injury.
Is running a 3 miles 3-4 times a week very bad for your body? I ask because that's how I get home from work.
Not really. But try to run as least as possible on pavement since it might wear down the condition on your knees after some time. Also if you're doing that many miles try to change sneakers every 300-400 miles as the sole of the show wears down around that distance.
