Can you justify putting Floyd Mayweather Jr in a top 10 ATG list?

No, just no. Floyd fought Gernaro for LESS money instead.

Dude, I answered all your questions. Apparently, you don't read my posts. How were the Cotto and Alvarez fights not at the "correct" weight? Cotto weighed as much for that fight as he weighs for his middleweight fights. Alvarez weighed less when he won the junior middleweight title than he did for the Mayweather fight.

And Mayweather and Wright weren't going to fight anymore than Hopkins and Toney were going to fight in 2003. Hopkins and Toney agreed to terms, even though there were three divisions apart, then Hopkins decided to fight Joppy instead.

Should Hopkins be banned from ATG status because he "ducked" a guy three divisions above him, too. Or was the Hopkins-Toney fight just talk ... like Mayweather-Wright was?

    Get a clue.

    Gernaro Hernandez?

Floyd fought him in 1998....we're talking about 2008!

Around the time Margarito offered Mqyweather in 2007 i believe, Floyd fought De La Hoya and Hatton for approx $50m.

    Margarito offered him $8m

    Do the maths.

So Cotto & Canelo are ATG's now are they?

Canelo was at 153. The stipulation was MADE BY FLOYD.

Face it: Floyd hasn't beaten a single ATG in their prime in a career that spans 20 years and three decades.

Face what? Everyone he's faced who is in the Hall of Fame, you say they weren't any good. Anyone he's faced who is still fighting, you say they won't make it in.

    I've been where you are.

You better hope this thread doesn't pop back up in a few years.

You're going to feel very foolish.

Also, Roberto Duran fought for 30 years, and he was only good for nine of them. He was mediocre or downright embarrassing for the last 20 years of his career.

And Mayweather's already beaten guys just as good as Buchanan and Cuevas and Palomino. And he didn't have to punch any of them in the nuts to win a title and refuse to give them a rematch.

But you're touting guys like Duran and running down Mayweather (who never quit a fight after getting punched in the armpit, or because he was going to **** his pants, like Duran did).

Don't be a hypocrite. It's embarrassing. Hold them all to the same standard. You praise Duran who spent 20 years quitting and ****ing on the rep he made in the 70s, and you have the gall to badmouth Mayweather for not fighting Winky Wright of all people?

Neither did Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis nor Wlad.

    Do you mean Baldomir?

Baldomir was the lineal champion at the weight (having defeated Zab Judah). Mayweather earned 8 million for a fight that bagged lineal recognition; as opposed to facing someone whose biggest win to that point was a victory over Kermit Cintron- for the same money.

Reasons Floyd should not be in the top 10:

    1) Too few fights.
    2) Avoided a few fighters (Margo, Paul Williams, Winky).
    3) Never become unified all belts to become undisputed.

He's had nearly 50 fights. Won them all. And has beaten like 25 champions. They weren't 50 fights against cab drivers.

Margarito and Paul Williams weren't better than De La Hoya, Pacquiao and Mosley at welter. Frazier defended his title against Quarry, Ellis, Ali and Bonavena ... he didn't fight Patterson or Thad Spencer, so what. They weren't better than the guys he beat. Mosley and Pacquiao owned Margarito.

Winky Wright and Mayweather never fought in the same division at the same time - or even close to the same divisions.

Finally, Floyd never became undisputed champion? He's been the undisputed welterweight champion for years. He beat the lineal champ and he's won all the welterweight belts ... and then the orgs name another guy a champion (interim, regular, whatever.) How many times do you have to beat everyone they give a belt to?

Who is the REAL welterweight champion?

    Mayweather is the welterweight champion.

    Just curious brb,

How many fights do you have to win to be a Top 10 all-time great?

It's not a question of whether Margarito/Paul Williams were better. It's all about Floyd fighting guys with different styles.

Floyd avoided bigger fighters (height and reach) that threw a lot of punches.

I don't have an exact formula. I don't think people truly appreciate what it takes to fight that many times (even against somewhat lower opposition).

All of the fighters in my top 10 have a lot more fights than Floyd.

I think the only fighter that has less fights in my top 20 is SRL, but that is because he beat a few elite fighters in their near prime and also went from WW to LHW and won belts in all of those weights which is nearly 28 pounds higher than he started out.

I have Floyd at the latter end of my top 20, but can't justify him for a top 10 spot.
